Coffee has been a popular drink for centuries in Mount Vernon, New York. The first coffeehouses were open in the late 17th century and there was evidence of coffee being sold near the State House before 1800. The first coffee beans were grown in Java, Indonesia and roasted on the family estate in Mount Vernon by Henschel & Company in 1846. The beans were brought to America by Lorenzo Beattie and first stored at his warehouse on Front Street before being unloaded at the state house. Beattie is credited with introducing coffee to America and helping to make Mount Vernon one of its most important cities. His son-in-law, Augustus Brinkerhoff, also played an important role in developing Mt. Vernon as a major commercial center for coffee and other goods during the 19th century. In 1892, John Philip Sousa composed "America's National Anthem" based upon the song "Alleluia!" which was originally written about Italian espresso drinks called Lungomare (Lake after Lungomare), which are still enjoyed today at many cafés throughout America. In honor of Sousa's contribution to American music, Mount Vernon Coffee Roasters put together a special edition of their popular Ethiopia Bagsamoyo blend commemorative cup that includes a free poem from Sousa himself penned by Rupi Kaur.

The Mount Vernon Coffee House had a long and varied coffee history. It started out as the Dutchman's Coffee House in 1664, and it served as the American arm of the Dutch East India Company until 1795. The building was purchased by Nathaniel Hawthorne in 1836, and it became his home from 1847 to 1850. The house was then used as an office for several years before being donated to the Mount Vernon Historic District in 1951.
Mount Vernon is a town in Ulster County, New York, United States. The population was 2,953 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo–Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what is now Mount Vernon was Nicholas Easton from England in 1786. He and his family built a log cabin on the east side of present-day Elm Street. In 1812, Ebenezer Howard moved to Mount Vernon from Westchester County and started farming on the west side of Elm Street. In 1814, he erected a large white stone house that still stands today as one of the town's iconic landmarks. The village of Mount Vernon began to form around this time with small homes scattered throughout its narrow streets. However, it wasn't until 1831 when the first post office was established at Mount Vernon with Samuel Morse as its first clerk. By this time, there were over 100 residents living in Mount Vernon Village alone! In 1835, George Washington ordered two cannons be constructed for use as artillery in Fort Niagara so that it could fire upon any enemy ships trying to enter or leave the port city of Buffalo Harbor! The cannons were eventually placed at both ends of Elm Street and fired off regularly during colonial times to ensure safety for Astoria Bay! A gristmill was built near where Main Street meets Elm Streets in 1830 by Andrew Jenson and continued operation until 1840; it used local ground water supplies brought up by horses and carts from nearby hillsides! A sawmill operated south of town along Church Road from about 1840 until 1862; it used wood brought down by deer hunters hunting overhang cliffs nearby! A blacksmith shop operated north of town along State Road from about 1850 until 1865. This workshop produced cannon parts for American armies fighting in Europe between 1812-1815! In 1860, three churches (Methodist Episcopal/First Baptist/Unitarian) were combined into one church (Mount Pleasant Methodist Episcopal) which continued operations until 1922 before being replaced by Holy Cross Roman Catholic parish services located adjacent to current day Union High School across Elm St./Route 901W from 1861-1922

Some of the earliest coffee gift History can be found in 1802 when a man named Joseph Priestly sent a shipment of Colombian beans to Dr. John Morse at Universal Coffee in Boston. In 1898, The New York Times published an article about how Mr. Morse had discovered coffee while on a trip to Peru. Consequently, shortly afterwards, Mr. Morse founded his own company called Columbia Press which manufactured and sold coffee products in America until 1961.
Mount Vernon, one of the most famous and well-known American residences, is located in the town of Mount Vernon, New York. The home was built by George Washington in 1796 and has been continuously occupied by the President of the United States since his inauguration on April 20, 1801. The home has been extensively refurbished over time and now forms part of the National Museum of American History. The house was originally called Mount Vernon because its location on a high mountain made it an ideal site for military purposes. In 1795, when Washington bought the property, it consisted of just two floors with a basement. Over time, however, the structure grew to include six stories and a large garden with more than fifty trees. The interior design features highly intricate woodwork and stonework. Washington used Mount Vernon as his primary residence from 1796 until his death in 1800. He frequently visited there and spent many hours inside or outside while conducting business or attending events in New York City or elsewhere in America. In addition to his official duties as President of the United States, Washington also served as an officer in both the Continental Army and Navy during the Revolutionary War. His children lived at various addresses within easy reach of their father but always maintained close ties to Mount Vernon. In 1925, following Franklin D Roosevelt's election as President of America, Mount Vernon became part of what is now known as FDR Presidential Library & Museum which is open to visitors every day from 9am to 4pm EST/6pm to 10pm CET/1am AEST/. As part of this library dedication ceremony on April 12th 1927 Mr FDR stated "I want my boyhood home near me – close enough that I can visit it if I feel like it – so that I can see all that he has done for our common country."
In 1795, New York became the 23rd state in the United States of America. The land that is now Mount Vernon was part of Albany County until 1795, when it was transferred to Wayne County. In 1802, Michigan Territory was created from parts of Ohio and Indiana counties, and Mount Vernon became a part of that territory. On February 14, 1827, New York Statehood occurred when it merged with the other states in the Union into one country.
