The Mount Vernon coffee industry began in the early 1800s, when European immigrants arrived in large numbers in the town of Mount Vernon. The first coffee beans were grown on a small farm near the town limits. In 1828, J.H.Milton bought the farm and started to grow coffeebeans for sale to local residents and businesses. By 1830, Milton had also built a coffeehouse in town which served as a meeting place for local farmers and tradesmen. In 1834, John Cranch bought the Milton coffee house and began to sell his beans direct to consumers throughout New York State. By 1840, John Cranch's business had reached its peak and he sold his company to Nicholas Brady for $1 million dollars. From 1840-1848, Nicholas Brady ran Mount Vernon Coffee Company with his son-in-law Joseph Pulitzer. The company produced over 1 million cups of espresso during that time period! After World War II, the Mount Vernon Coffee Company was acquired by Peet's Coffee Corporation which continued production until 1978 when it was closed down due to economic conditions. Today, only a couple of remnant bean fields remain within walking distance of the original shop buildings that once thrived within these walls!

The Mount Vernon Coffee Company was founded by two Italian immigrants, Antonio and Giovanni Marino, who opened a small roasting shop on the corner of State and Court Streets in Mount Vernon. In 1916, the company moved to its current location on Washington Street in downtown Mount Vernon and changed its name to the Mount Vernon Coffee Company Limited. In 1922, the company donated their entire inventory of beans to New York University's School of Food Science and Technology for use in their research program into flavor extraction methods for coffee. Today, the Mount Vernon Coffee Company Limited operates as a business with three stores across New York City: One at Union Square West near Times Square; one at 129 Astor Place in Downtown Brooklyn; and one at 249 W 5th Avenue in Albany, New York.
Mount Vernon is a historic plantation house located in the Town of Mount Vernon, Ulster County, New York. It was built in 1785 by George Washington and his wife Martha Washington, and is a two-story, rectangular structure with a gable roof. It has an oven and stove on one side and three stories of domestic architecture including four bedrooms and five bathrooms. The property also includes a large manor park which contains about 100 acres (40 ha) of forested land. The Mount Vernon estate was first occupied by the Powhatan Confederacy as part of their efforts to protect their lands from European settlers. In 1786, General George Washington purchased the plantation from James Robertson for £10,000. He used it as his main residence until his death in 1799. The properties passed through several hands before being sold to John Jacob Astor in 1827 for $135,000. After Astor's death in 1847, they were acquired by Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt who donated them to the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in 1902. They are now managed by the University's Mount Vernon Conservancy.

Today there are an estimated 350artisan roasters operating throughout North America including 150+ located in California alone! In 1790, Mount Vernon was one of the first places in the United States to be developed as a commercial center. The site had been selected by George Washington because it was close to Yorktown, Virginia, and its potential for trade made it an ideal location for his new nation. The following year, Washington purchased the land from the Native American tribe that had occupied it for centuries. He built a small fort on the site and began to develop what would become one of America’s most iconic landmarks. Washington kept much of Mount Vernon private from the general population until he became president in 1797. He then decided to make it available to all Americans, who could visit it for educational purposes or for military training. In 1814, he moved forward with plans to build a national capital in Mount Vernon and placed majority ownership of the property with Congress. By 1825, Congress had finished building Capitol Hill and decided that Mount Vernon should house it too. The government leased out part of Mount Vernon again in 1834-35 so that more people could enjoy its beauty while also using its resources for military purposes. Today, we can still see many of Washington’s original features at Mount Vernon: his small fort and home; his library; his gardens; and even some of his furniture! Not only is this place an interesting tourist destination itself but also Contains rich historical content which makes it valuable research fodder for historians everywhere!
