The Guard was also a major player in the reconstruction process after the Great Depression.
Massena is a small town in the Catskills region of New York State. The population was 7,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Utica-Rome, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village was settled in 1786 by farmers from Verona, Italy. Massena developed as a farming community with a primarily agricultural economy until the early 20th century when it became an important manufacturing center for flour and other products. In recent years, Massena has become an increasingly popular tourist destination due to its attractive scenery and history. The name "Massena" comes from the Lenape word "matseh" meaning "large body of water". The first settler in what is now Massena was Nicholas Doherty who arrived in 1786 with his family from Ireland. Doherty named his place after his fatherland which he had visited on his way there but did not explore further because he felt insufficiently experienced to do so. In 1814, Daniel Webster traveled through central New York and stopped at Massena while returning to Rochester from a trip to Buffalo. He proclaimed that if Congress could be induced to appropriate money for military purposes within two months he would move westward into Canada where he believed war might exist between Great Britain and Mexico as result of their ongoing territorial disputes over Texas (today's Mexico). Webster's speech helped spur Congress to Appropriate $24,000 for military purposes within two months - much later becoming known as the Webster-Dodd Bill - which provided funds for Ulysses S. Grant's Overland Campaign during the American Civil War (1861-1865). Later that year, on October 22nd 1814, John Lawless arrived at Massena with his family from England and named his place after himself; Lawless had been captain of HMS Beagle during British Admiral Lord Howe's unsuccessful attempt to invade America in 1805.) Lawless also founded Albany County; this county formed part of New York state until merged into Clinton County in 1898.) On May 10th 1861 United States Senator Abraham Lincoln delivered an address entitled "A Speech on Queen Victoria's Coronation" at Trinity Episcopal Church located just outside of town limits; this event served as a catalyst for the founding of Central School District No 2 which opened its doors that fall along with nearby Plainview Village Schools) . In 1916 massenans erected their first school building (now used as storage) on present day Route 206 next door to The Gristmill.. massenan residents raised money towards purchasing land surrounding what is now Route 206 for industrial use beginning in 1919 ..In 1955 local resident Harry Kapp organized a golf tournament which drew many top players from all over eastern new york area ..In 1957 local resident Artie Wecht organized a car show/sale held at The Gristmill ..And lastly in 1959 local resident Josephine Wecht organized her own pageant evening featuring some very talented singers including Joanne Woodward.. From these various events over time more than $10K was raised ..Today massenans enjoy excellent scenic views along most or all parts of their village including several miles worth Of Lake Placid Estates Wildlife Preserve%.

This led to the increase in National Guard unit numbers, and by 1945 there were more than 1 million soldiers and civilians assigned to various types of guard duty across the United States. During peacetime, members of the National Guard may only be called into active service for a few months (called “ mobilization”) while they are training or being mobilized for war; after that time they are considered inactive members and can do whatever they please without being called back into service. Today, there are over 350 thousand members of the National Guard serving in states across America; allowing them to play an essential role in our society while providing us with peacekeeping capabilities if necessary. In addition to their duties within our military or law enforcement organizations, Guardsmen can also engage in many other activities such as participating in parades or demonstrations, donating blood at local hospitals or giving rides home to seniors on Veterans Day. There is no doubt that this organization has played an important role throughout American history and will continue to do so until we achieve full independence from Great Britain!
