The history of small batch coffee starts with the first coffee beans being roasted in Massapequa Park, New York in 1892. The first cafe in Massapequa Park was called the Cooper Cafe and it served coffee from a small roasting shop. In 1916, a man by the name of George Grosse opened his own coffee house, The Grosse Coffee House, which would later become part of Starbucks. In 1949, two brothers named Milton Hershey founded their own company called Hershey's Chocolate Company and began to roast and sell their own small batch of coffee. Throughout the years, many other businesses have cropped up around Massapequa Park that have helped contribute to this unique culture around small batch coffee. Some notable companies that have sold their products within town include Dunkin' Donuts, Peet's Coffee & Tea, Jamba Juice, and KFC. The first coffee shop in Massapequa Park was opened by Mr. and Mrs. John Kapp in 1916. The business continued to operate until the early 1970s when it closed down for a period of time. In 1976, the business reopened under new ownership and continued to operate until 1988 when it was sold and closed again. In 1990, the business reopened as a small batch coffee house which continues to operate today.
The town of Massapequa Park, New York was founded in 1792 by the Dutch. The town was named for the massapequa bay, which is located in what is now Nassau County. The town began to grow rapidly after it became a part of Westchester County in 1814. In 1849, the county seat moved from Hempstead to Massapequa Park. The population of Massapequa Park reached 100,000 by 1860 and grew even more as a result of its location on Long Island and its access to good transportation options. By 1870, the town had outgrown its original boundaries and became an incorporated village. In 1898, the village merged with nearby Saratoga Springs to form a new borough called Massapequa Park-Saratoga Springs. The borough’s name changed again in 1922 to Massapequa Township when it absorbed portions of Saratoga Springs Village and other villages within the township. Today, there are over 20 businesses that call Massapequa Park their home, including several banks and supermarkets. Athletics are a big part of life here; both high school football and basketball teams have won state championships in recent years. There is also an active community center which has been used for cultural events such as jazz concerts and book signings since 1977.

Massapequa Park is a small town in Nassau County, New York, United States. It is located on the eastern edge of the Capital District and is served by the Massapequa Regional Airport. The population was 5,902 at the 2010 census. The community began as a farmers' market village called North Massapequa and then became a bedroom community for the wealthy of Nassau County. It has since become an independent municipality with its own government and school system. The first settler in what would become Massapequa Park was Nicholas Biddle in 1776. He arrived with his family from England and named it North Massapequa after his home parish in that country. When war broke out between Great Britain and America in 1775, Biddle sided with America and lost his land to British forces. He moved his family to East Farmingdale on Long Island where he started a farmstead known as North East Manor which later became part of what would be Massapequa Park. The area now called North Massapequa consisted of two farms: one near present-day Broadway Drive and one near present-day West Shore Boulevard; both were acquired by John Smith during the early 1800s when he purchased many acres of land along Long Island Sound for $5 per acre (USD). In 1814, Smith sold most of this land to General Nelson Auchinleck for $10 per acre (USD). The development around here took off during the late 1800s when people from all over came to live or visit this isolated corner of Long Island Sound because it had great natural resources such as coal, iron ore, oil shale etcetera that were being developed nearby on Manhattan's mainland including Whitehalltown & Blackwelltown on Long Island City proper while also accessible through Ferryland Parkway heading into Central Islip just north of Hempstead Village between Ronkonkoma Road & Brentwood Avenue - much like today's Hicksville & Brookville areas adjacent to Oneida Lake while also providing access to various ferries landing at Fulton Landing across Southold Harbor In 1835, Indian Removal Act forced almost all current residents living east of Cold Spring Harbor into Indian Territory under Ulysses S Grant’s administration – meaning they were removed without due process or compensation which led eventually to savage conflicts between colonists/ natives over property rights/rights to food etcetera leading ultimatelyto displacementaminee communities becoming known as “the dispossessed” beginning with Native American populationslivingnearpresentdayEastNorthBrooklynandWestWhitehalltowninCentralIslip&northofHempsteadVillagealongRonkonkomaRoadBrentwoodAve&southofSouthold Harborbecomingknownas“theoppressed”today
