The Coast Guard Auxiliary in Long Beach, New York has been providing law enforcement and maritime support for the community since 1923. The Coast Guard Auxiliary was created to provide a homeland security presence along the New York-New Jersey border. In 1937, the Auxiliary began providing coastal security patrols along Long Beach's southern coast. In the early 1940s, Coast Guard Patrol Squadron One was activated in Long Beach and responsibility for patrolling the New York-New Jersey shoreline was transferred to it. On 1 September 1944, Captain John P. Welch assumed command of Patrol Squadron One and continued patrol duties until his death on 15 December 1944. On 3 October 1945, Captain Everett Dickson became Commanding Officer of Patrol Squadron One and continued patrol duties until his death on 5 November 1945. On 16 October 1957, Commodore James Fenton assumed command of Coastal Security Group Three (CSG-3) which comprised Patrol Squadrons Two (PS2), Four (PS4), Five (PS5), Sixteen (16) and Eighteen (18) of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary with jurisdiction over all waters within three miles of Long Beach Harbor including all bays/harbors within twelve miles of Los Angeles Harbor except as follows: Bombay Bay; Cherry Point; Elkhorn Key; Herald Shoal; Hog Island; Islip Headland; Lighthouse Bight; Lightkeeper's Island - these boundaries were reorganized on 4 January 1959 when PS2 became PS4 then PS5 then PS6 then PS7 before becoming part Of CSG-3 effective 6 January 1959 In 1969, Headquarters USCG relocated from Monterey to San Diego as part of Commander U S Customs Service reductions program which also included HQ USCG Command Post North at Bremerton Naval Shipyard thenceforth known as "USS Simons" CSG-3 disbanded on 17 February 1970 due to lack of personnel

The museum was started by the Long Beach, New York City Police Department and it was first called the "Police Headquarters Annex" before it became the "Museum of the U.S. Coast Guard." The museum contains many artifacts from the coast guard including uniforms, boats, medals, and more.
Long Beach is a city in Long Island, New York, United States. The population was 1,512 at the 2010 census. It is located on the southern tip of Long Island and shares borders with Sayreville to the north and Woodbury Heights to the east. The first Europeans to visit what is now Long Beach were Dutch traders in 1609. The name may come from "Langbehaf" or "Langbagh". A post office called Langbehaf was established in 1795, and remained in operation until 1876. In 1857, an act of Congress made Long Beach part of Queens County. In 1870, a group of businessmen founded the town of Babylon on mainland Long Island as a cotton port for surrounding counties. The town was renamed Babylon after the ancient city of Babylonia in Iraq. In 1872, it became a borough within Queens County; it retained its borough status until 1951 when it became an independent city under the control of Mayor Abe Beame. In 1907, Brooklyn–Manhattan Railway built a line through Babylon that connected Bayonne and Canarsie with Manhattan; this caused Babylon to lose its borough status but kept its name throughout its years as an Independent City. On May 15th 1920, Mayor John F Kennedy proposed annexing Babylon into New York City due to railroad competition; however this proposal was not accepted by New York City voters as they desired their own independent city government separate from Brooklyn-Manhattan Railway
The Coast Guard gift history goes back to the early days of the United States Coast Guard. In 1790, the first coast guard detachment was formed at New York City under Commodore John Graves Simcoe. In 1924, Congress created a branch of the Coast Guard known as the United States Customs Service. This division was responsible for collecting customs duties on goods entering or leaving the country. The first settlement in what is now Long Beach was made on May 24, 1835 by Captain John Cushing and his party of Hudson's Bay Company fur traders when they founded the village of Aptakisic on the shore of Lake Ontario just north of present-day Huntington Avenue. In 1868, Long Beach became part of New York City as a result of the American Civil War and lost its status as an incorporated town until 1870 when it regained that status with the passage of the Townshend Commission Act. In 1898, Long Beach became one of two U.S.-based communities (the other being San Pedro) to be designated Special District No. 2 for shipbuilding purposes due to its location at an important seaport on both sides of Long Island Sound - thus becoming Homeport for many large maritime companies. The city's importance continued into the 21st century with significant redevelopment taking place in Downtown Long Beach and across portions of South Long Beach including North Coast Plaza mall which opened in 1978 as one of America's first high-rise shopping centers
