Lindenhurst is a small town in Westchester County, New York, United States. The population was 12,944 at the 2010 census. Lindenhurst is part of the New York City Metropolitan Area and it is bordered by Ithaca to the north, Syracuse to the east, and Claremont to the south. TheMontefiore School District encompasses Lindenhurst Township. The first settlers in what is now Lindenhurst were two Dutch families who arrived on horseback from Amsterdam on July 8, 1676. Farming began shortly thereafter and grew rapidly due to early access to good land and good water flow. By 1795 there were over 100 farmers in operation with a total production of corn, beans, potatoes, apples, cheese etc., which helped support several churches and schools as well as providing employment for many people. After years of growth some of the original pioneers sold their holdings in 1814 whenCB&Q Railroad became available through Long Island Rail Road (LIRR). Lindenhurst's first post office opened in 1827; it was renamed "Bellevue" after Captain Harry Belcher who served as Postmaster General during President James K. Polk's term of office (1841-45). In 1879 Bellevue had an addition which housed a grocery store and bakery on Main Street where today that building still stands; this addition also included a combined public library/library garage across from it. In 1901 local resident John Hickey established what would become one of America's most successful dairy farming operations – Hickey Dairy Products – coming up with a new way to produce milk using modern technology including pasteurization techniques then unknown outside North America! Today Hickey Dairy products are one of America's leading food manufacturers with more than $2 billion worth sales annually worldwide! A branch of Fannie Mays' department store was built just west of town limits in 1950 adjacent to Peconic Bay Park – becoming one of only two shopping malls serving eastern New York State before deregulation ledto competition among mall developers throughout much OFIW history! Lindenhurst is a town in the Hudson Valley in New York, United States. The population was 7,711 at the 2010 census. The name of Lindenhurst comes from an early Dutch settlement there which was named after Johannes van Linden (1624-1685), one of the first farmers in what would become New York City. The community was founded by Abram de Vries and his family in 1710 as a small post on the Mohawk River. They were followed by others and by 1812 it had a population of 100 people. A sawmill on the river created some jobs for the town's residents but also generated pollution that led to its closure in 1897. A new mill built nearby began operations in 1902 and continued until 1974; it produced lumber, paper products, food products and other materials for local mills until stopped due to lack of demand. Lindenhurst's largest employer during its heyday was Woolworths store which opened in 1912 with 11 employees. It grew rapidly through acquisitions throughout the 1920s and 1930s but then went into decline just as World War II approached; it closed down completely in 1964 when Woolworths merged with Jamba Juice Company. In recent years, however, Lindenhurst has seen renewed growth thanks to initiatives such as Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) development and new retail projects like One Stop Shopping at Town Hall Plaza whichopened this year
The Lindenhurst area of New York City was founded in 1755 by Nicholas Lindenbaum. The town was named for the Dutch colony of North Holland, which had been founded in 1624. Lindenhurst was first settled by Germans, but they were expelled from the town in 1802. The population ofLindenhurst peaked at 30 residents in 1828, but it declined over the next few decades. In 1870, the Northern Railroad reached Lindenhurst, and its residents began to commute to jobs located in Manhattan. However, the community's popularity waned after World War II and it has since fallen into disrepair.
