In 1892, the United States Navy stationed warships in Lindenhurst, New York as part of its Great Lakes Naval District. The Lindenhurst Naval Base was developed during this time and is now an important facility for the Navy. The first ships to be stationed at Lindenhurst were the USS Constitution and USS Olympia. These two warships were used to patrol the lakes and provide support to other naval units in the district. In 1897, a new ship, USS Rappahannock, arrived at Lindenhurst and served as a training vessel for sailors from other navy districts. During World War I, Lindenhurst was again used as a naval base. This time, it was used mostly for storage of munitions. After the war ended in 1919, the navy dismantled most of its warships inLindenhurst and sent them back to their ports around America. However, one destroyer remained at Lindenhurst until 1954 when it was decommissioned and sold to private owners. Since then, only three ships have been stationed at Lindenhurst-the USS William L Snively (LST-5), USS John F Kennedy (CVN-8) & USNS Grunion (LHD-1). Each ship has played a different role within the Navy: Grunion was commissioned into service in 2007 as part of Operation Neptune's Spear; Snively served as a museum ship from 2008-2013; and Kennedy served primarily as a tourist attraction until her retirement in 2017. Today, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard is responsible for maintaining all three vessels while they undergo refurbishment or maintenance work which includes painting & repainting/updating their engines & propellers etc.. Only through continued investment by both Portsmouth Naval Shipyard & our community can these Sailors receive one last chance at glory!

Lindenhurst, New York is a town in Westchester County, New York, United States. The population was 7,846 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New York City Metropolitan Area. Lindenhurst was first settled by German and Italian immigrants in the early 17th century. The name comes from Saint Nicholas of Lindisfarne, who arrived in 1624. In 1853, the village of Lindenhurst merged with neighboring village of Hawthorne to form what is now the town of Lindenhurst and Hawthorne. The townsite that includes present-day Lindenhurst was patented on November 3rd, 1792 by Elias Weisman (1736-1801), an immigrant from Prussia who had married a daughter of Peter Stuyvesant, Governor of Manhattan during the American Revolution. On April 14th, 1800 John Jacob Astor purchased 375 acres (190 ha) at what is now Main Street and Prospect Avenue for $2 per acre (0.47 ha). This land formed part of what would become known as Astoria Township. A year later on July 1st 1800 George Washington's troops burned down a barns and farmstead near present day Park Avenue and Prospect Avenue which had been used as artillery ammunition storage during the Revolutionary War while fighting against British forces at Saratoga Springs in upstate New York; this destroyed much valuable property including some owned by Weisman himself along with his son Nicholas Weisman and siblings Michaelangela (born 1775), Anna Maria (born 1777) and Nicholas’ wife Catherine(née Hahnemann). In 1802 or 1803 two brothers named John Ayer bought 640 acres (240 ha) south side of Main Street between East Ave., eastBound NY State Rd 27N/26W & White Plains Rd., also eastBound NY State Rd 27N/26W from Nicholas Weisman for $5 per acre ($1/ha). This land became known as Amherst Township after General James Amherst who commanded British forces during America's War for Independence in alliance with France under Napoleon Bonaparte.. On October 9th 1825 Anthony Boucher purchase 640 acres north side Mill Road between White Plains Rd & East Ave., also eastBound NY State Rd 27N/26W from Nicholas Weisman for $10 per acre ($2/ha). This land became known as Bolton Township after Anthony Boucher one hundred years later when it was donated to Bolton Township by his granddaughter Theresa Boucher McNamara.. The initial grantees were: Elias Weisman (owner), John Jacob Astor(purchaser #1), George Washington(purchaser #2), Anthony Boucher(buyer #1 together), Moses Lyon(seller #3)John Richardson(seller #4). The United States Navy (USN) has a long and proud history of deploying gifts to its allies and friends. One of the most well-known examples is the USS Constitution, which was donated by President George Washington to the Royal Navy in 1795. The USN also sends Christmas presents to countries all over the world, including some that are very close allies such as Peru and Chile. In recent years, however, it has become increasingly difficult for naval vessels from our country to travel abroad without being met with suspicion or hostility from their hosts. This is particularly true in areas such as Northeast Asia where there is a significant Chinese military presence. As a result, gifts have been harder to come by for sailors on deployments in this region. One solution that has been put into place in recent years is the "Gift of Sail" program. This program allows decommissioned warships like USS Bennington (LHD 9) and USS Cowpens (CG 57) to be donated to various organizations who then use them for educational purposes or other humanitarian causes. These vessels can then be returned home after serving their purpose and remain part of Naval history forever!

Lindenhurst was a small town in Livingston County, New York, north of the city of New York City. It had a population of about 1,500 in 1920 and 2,000 in 1940. The town was part of the New York metropolitan area for most of its history. The town was founded by General John Lindenhurst on October 6, 1824 as an agricultural community named after his grandfather. The first settler on the present-day site of Lindenhurst was Elias Howe. He built a log cabin and began to cultivate land. In 1827, he bought some more land and renamed the settlement "Lindenhurst". In 1840, the post office at Lindenhurst was moved from Auburn to Livingston County because of increasing postage rates in NYC. The first mail coach ran between Lindenhurst and Albany on September 12 that year. The early settlers were farmers who raised corn, hay, potatoes and poultry but soon started businesses such as sawmills, grist mills and breweries. A two-lane road connecting Lindenhurst with nearby Uniontown opened in 1851; it became known as "the Main Street Road" today. In 1865, when NYS Route 9 intersected US Route 10 nearpresent-day Scarsdale (now Rosendale), the two roads were combined into one highway system which became State route 517 (NYS Route 9A) until it was decommissioned in 1972; since then there has been no connection between these highways save for occasional local closures due to construction projects or flooding events along either route (e.g., during Hurricane Sandy). Ithaca College located just east of town served residents while Cornell University located several miles west campus served easterners until Ithaca College closed its doors in 1966; both institutions are now defunct Campus buildings have been demolished but much Of Ithaca college's memorabilia still remains around campus including some faculty offices!
Lindenhurst was originally a small hamlet in Broome County, New York. It was chartered on December 21, 1812 as the town of Lindenhurst by the Commissioners who organized new towns in Broome County. The first settler in Lindenhurst was Nicholas Larkin. The village of Lindenhurst grew up around the original small community and became an important commercial center for the region. The Village had a school, post office, store, blacksmith shop and other services. In 1868, the town of Lindenhurst merged with neighboring villages of Hastings and North Bethpage to form the larger city of Niagara Falls. The merger resulted in many changes for residents in Lindenhurst including a reduction in population from 350 to 20 after it joined with other nearby villages.
