Lancaster, New York is home to the national guard. The Lancaster National Guard was organized on October 1, 1898 and granted its first commission on November 5, 1898. The unit has served in many wars and campaigns including World War I and World War II. The current regiment is composed of over 8,000 soldiers who are trained and equipped to provide defense within the borders of the United States. The Lancaster National Guard has a rich history that can be traced back to 1814 when militia units were organized in response to the Upper Canada Rebellion. In 1821, a second militia regiment was formed in Lancaster County after British troops burned down the courthouse at Saratoga Springs. Militia units were disbanded in 1826 due to lack of volunteers. In 1861, the state of New York created its own volunteer military forces called “the Regimental Guards” which would serve throughout the American Civil War. The regiments were abolished by order of President Abraham Lincoln after Confederate General Robert Ewell surrendered at Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865. During World War I, the Lancaster National Guard served with distinction under various commanders including John Jealous (1st Lt.), general George Smedley ( Brigadier General), Major-General Sidney Johnston (2nd Lt.), Major-General James Akeley (Lt.-Colonel) and Lieutenant Colonel Edwin Laughlin (Captain). After V-E Day in 1945, service members received an honorable discharge as well as medals and citations for their participation in war efforts such as being one of only two infantry battalions assigned to land at Normandy Beachhead; leading artillery into battle during Meuse-Argonne Offensive; directing air support against German positions; playing a critical role in allied victory at costly Battle of Vimy Ridge; and providing security for transportation resources during Operation Crossroads. The origins of today's military can be traced back further still with local militias from early times until statehood in 1785 when Pennsylvania authorised county militias for self-defense purposes outside Boston’s jurisdiction – an event that helped solidify western Pennsylvania’s relationship with Great Britain over time. Militia Units became organized into brigades or divisions during America’s Revolutionary War under command of major generals who controlled entire counties/townships rather than individual militias which allowed commanders more centralized control over their men while also providing some degree of independence from provincial authorities.. After Confederation following America’s Declaration Of Independence all these organizational changes stopped while each colony continuedOperating their own militias up until 1792 when Massachusetts introduced a billrequiring all townships within their limits to form companies or regiments serving four years without pay then becoming components thereofofMassachusettsNationalGuard . With ratification by both houses later that year Connecticut followed suit eligibility requirements for townships within 24 hrs once it had been ratified by 2/3rds vote thru Assembly Bill No 24 . By 1800 there must have been around 100 company level militiamen dependent upon sheriff & magistrate office .. Most companies disbanded thereafter due either too much turnover or just not enough manpower needed for main duty

The Lancaster National Guard was organized on October 1, 1792. The first unit was a company of militia guardsmen from the town of Lancaster. Over time, the national guard system grew and evolved to include more than 10,000 men in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
Lancaster is a town in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 7,859 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest of the towns in Erie County and has the smallest land area of any town in Erie County. Lancaster is also one of two towns in Erie County that are not served by a post office (the other being Atchison). The first settlers to Lancaster were Dutch immigrants who arrived from Holland in 1609. They built a log cabin on the west side of Peca Creek and named it "Lancaster." The first store opened in 1798. In 1817, General Israel Putnam visited Lancaster and ordered the construction of a courthouse and jail. After putting down a pro-Indian uprising near his home, Putnam became an advocate for frontier settlement. He donated land to form what would become Lancaster Park; which still stands today as one of downtown's most popular attractions. In 1821, he married Lydia Greenough, daughter of Judge Isaac Greenough and granddaughter of Revolutionary War hero Nathanael Greene. In 1825, when Lancaster became part of new Albany county following its acquisition from Genesee county under the terms of the Treaty of Paris after American victory over Great Britain in the war known as "The Indian Wars," it had a population numbering only 5 people; all but one living on tree tracts given to them by Genesee coon farmer Darius Noyes as part of his surrender agreement with British forces at Fort Niagara (later Ontario). With no industry or sizable population blocs outside village limits existing until 1880 when flour mills began operations nearby - making Lancaster an important center for commerce - rapid growth followed ensuing waves both inside and outside village limits ensued through out most if not all decades prior up until recent decades when modest rates droughts & extenuating circumstances have resulted Main Street becoming little more than 1-lane artery thruout much larger populace

Lancaster, New York is a small town in the Finger Lakes region of New York State. It is located on the south side of the Erie Canal and is surrounded by Clinton Township to the east, Canandaigua County to the west, and Westmoreland County to the north. The population was 5,711 at the 2010 census. Lancaster was founded in 1795 by Captain John Lancaster and his brother-in-law David Dowling as a trading post on Lake Ontario. The first town meeting was held on July 24, 1795. Lancaster became an incorporated city in 1834. In 1907 it merged with neighboring Clinton to form one large municipality. The first settlers in what is now Lancaster came from Pennsylvania in 1795. Captain John Lancaster and his brother-in-law David Dowling were among those who arrived from that state that year aboard the ship "Philadelphia." They built a cabin near where they now live on Maple Street within sight of today's Post Office building which opened in 1903. Soon after their arrival, these pioneers started trading with local natives for goods and services necessary for life on this new land. By 1800, there were over 50 families living here together along with some 20 businesses catering to settlers plus a few Native American traders who traded goods back and forth between Lancaster and Canada. Captain John Lancaster died suddenly while out mining gold nearby in 1810; however, his wife Sarah continued farming until her death less than two years later at age 73 years old due to complications from childbirth alone! With her death certificate stating she had hemorrhaged internally after giving birth “by no means without danger or inconvenience” (Dowling v Chilton), Sarah's widow Deborah took up gardening as her main occupation following her husband's death before she could lay down any law about succession! In 1814 Deborah moved into what would become known as Mrs.� Langhorne's House which still stands today just off Tryon Road opposite Maple Street! Here she resided until 1840 when she relocated again taking up residence next door (now part of Lebanon Baptist church) briefly before moving permanently into what would become known as Mrs.� Atkinson�s House which still stands today across Tryon Road adjacent to Mr.� Atkinson’s Garage! In 1886 Mrs.� Hanks moved into what would become known as Mrs.� Bauman�s House which still stands today just off Delaware Avenue opposite our current Post Office building! This house served as home also for many local schoolteachers including: Miss.� Bowers (1896-1957), Sister Juana Castillo (1957 - present), Sister Mary Joanne Walsh(1997-) & Ms.� Teresa Gomez(1998-) during their respective terms serving our community through both public schools & private academies/daycare centers!!! It wasn't until 1907 when residents of neighboring Clinton merged with residents of Lancaster for one larger municipality that we began seeing all sorts of things begin happening concurrently here within our own borders...items such as: 1) A telephone system being installed 2) Streets named after prominent citizens 3) An organized baseball team being formed 4) A library being established 5) A water tower soon followed 6) A fire department 7)...the list goes on & ON!!! And so it has been ever since!!!!!
