The Kingston Naval Shipyards was founded in 1898 by Rear Admiral John F. Elliott and his wife, Lillie. The yards produced the first American battleships, including the USS Maine (1898) and USS Constitution (1901). In 1902, Rear Admiral Elliott donated the original plot of land for the shipyard which became known as Elliot's Bequest. The yards built a total of twenty-eight warships between 1898 and 1907. In 1917, Kingston was hit hard by World War I and many military units left for war. However, Kingston never lost its war-time spirit and saw its production surge again after the war ended. It produced over fifty warships between 1918 and 1919. After the war, Kingston went into a new era where it became one of America's leading naval shipyards. From 1922 to 1941, it produced over seventy warships. During World War II, Kingston played an important role in producing ships for both the Navy and Marine Corps. It built fourteen ships for the Navy alone; nine destroyers/destroyer escorts (DEs), three submarines (SSNs), two Landing Craft Infantry (LCI), six torpedo boats (TLF/TTF), four destroyer escorts (DES), two LCS(L) ferries – "Natchez" and "Plymouth" – as well as various support vessels such as gunboats or landing craft landing Marines on beaches during amphibious operations or supplying troops in combat areas ashore before they could advance inland with artillery fire support or air cover from carriers offshore. After World War II ended in 1945, Kingston reverted back to civilian hands but continued to produce warships until 1998 when it was closed down due to budgetary reasons following expiration of a US government contract that had been awarded to another company at that time - National Shipbuilding Corporation - Incorporated..Following closure of navy gift history at Kingston Naval Shipyards there are still extant examples of American warship design dating back to 1898 such as USS Maine Museum located in Portsmouth NH while USS Constitution Museum resides in Baltimore MD

Kingston is located on the ruins of an ancient Iroquois settlement, Saint George's Fort. The first European to visit Kingston was Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1524. The Dutch founded a fur trading post here in 1614 and built a sawmill and gristmill on the river. In 1734, John Jr., 3rd Baron Cornwallis moved his family from Staten Island to what is now Kingston and began minting coins here as part of his rebellion against British rule. In 1755, after the Battle of Saratoga, General George Washington crossed the Hudson River at Kingston and took possession of this site as his headquarters camp for operations against British forces in North America. After the Revolution, Kingston became one of four towns within Oneida County that were not ceded to United States control following the Treaty of Paris (1783). After years of prosperity due to its location and commerce, however, during World War II it experienced major economic decline as many civilians left for war-time jobs elsewhere when New York City became an all-out military city because production quotas were set by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to help assure victory over Germany in World War II

Kingston, New York is a small town in Erie County, New York, United States. It is located on the east side of the Susquehanna River and includes the villages of Kingston and Eastville. The population was 9,898 at the 2010 census. The first Europeans to come to Kingston were French traders who arrived in 1664. They named it "Richelieu" after King Louis XIII of France. The Dutch also came to Kingston in 1664 and called it "Hague". In 1753, a patent was issued for what is now Kingston Township. This grant included land that later became easternmost part of Erie County. The first settler in what is now Kingston was Nicholas Wolf (1727-1783). He arrived with his family from Germany in 1753 and built a house on the site that would become Wolf's Tavern today. One account says he named his home "Kingston". John Woolridge (1756-1828) moved to Kingston in 1802 when he bought 640 acres (2 km²) along the Susquehanna River from Nicholas Wolf for $1,000 cash. woolridge ran a gristmill here until 1808 when he sold it to Elijah Brownell (1800-1868). Brownell founded Lancaster Mills which became one of America's largest manufacturers of flour and other products until its acquisition by General Mills in 1925. taverns such asWolf's Tavern were common places where people gathered for fishing or trade during early settlement times on the Susquehanna Riverbanks around present day Kingston and Eastville communities Bluffs Road/Kings Highway intersection etc.. Unfortunately many taverns closed down due economic decline or prohibition raids by law enforcement officers during prohibition years because they did not meet licensing requirements set forth by state law prohibiting alcohol sales outside populated areas
