The town began as a small farming community with only two houses and one barn. In 1865, Kingston became part ofBrooklyn because that city had been given authority over all lands south of Fulton Street in Manhattan including what are now Queens and Brooklyn Counties. On July 16, 1898, Kingstons purchase their first school building – known as “The Old School” – for $1,500 from Jnoeph Paulding who donated it to them after his death in 1892. In 1917, Queenstown Township was formed from parts of Kingsdown and Hempstead Townships within Brooklyn; this gave Kingston greater autonomy than either Queens Borough or Brooklyn Borough had ever possessed before. After World War II ended there were many changes taking place in Kingston such as becoming an open-air shopping center called “The Mall” which opened on December 3rd 1946 followed by other buildings such as housing developments called “the Bridge Project” which opened on October 1st 1959 adjacent to Interstate 95 between Jamaica Avenue/Hempstead Parkway and Pacific Highway South

Both towns were founded in 1755 by Scotsmen who had come to America to escape persecution back in their homeland. In 1824, when Kingston became a city, it was also the first in New York State to do so. It was an important stop on the Underground Railroad and played an important role in helping fugitive slaves reach freedom. Kingston's economy has changed over time as well. While it has been primarily a manufacturing center since its founding, it has also become known for its agriculture and food processing industries. Today, Kingston is home to several colleges and universities as well as numerous businesses and factories.
