Since then, members of the Air Force have donated millions of dollars to local charities and causes. This donation has helped make Harrison a very philanthropic community. Harrison, New York is a small town located in Ulster County, New York, United States. The population was 553 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo–Niagara Falls metropolitan area. Harrison was founded by George Washington and his brother Jameson in 1784. The first post office was established in 1811. In 1827, it changed its name to Harrisonburg after General John A. Harrison who fought in the American Revolutionary War and later served as a Ulysses S Grant's Vice President from 1869-1877 and as a U.S Senator from Indiana from 1907-1913. The community has been inhabited since the late 19th century by Germans and Irish immigrants who worked on farms and tailorshops until manufacturing became more prevalent in the area during World War II when many residents enlisted in the military or took jobs in local companies such as IBM or GEICO while their families continued to live subsistencely on farmssteads near Main Street. After the war ended, many new businesses moved into Harrison including Ford Motorsports Park (now Champions Motor Speedway), which hosted NASCAR races starting in 1984; KFC; JCPenney; Sears Catalog Company; Wawa Buffet Restaurants Inc.; PepsiCo USA Inc.; Coca Cola North America Operations LLC; EBI Foods Corporation; Hershey Industries Limited Partnership ; Verizon FiOS Communications MSG Holdings LLC ; Mohawk Electric Supply Co., Inc.; Artisan Grain & Dairy Processor - also known locally as "The Old Grain Store" Many of these businesses remain today with some alterations (e.g., Wawa now serves light snacks) while others have closed (KFC did not reopen until 2018). Harrison has had two mayors: Michael Crowley (1995-2006) and Joseph Pappenheimer (2006-2010). On July 1st 2020, Democrat Conor Lamb won an open seat against Republican Rick Lazio for US House of Representatives vacated by Bob Goodlatte who decided to retire after 26 years of service

The first settler in what is now Harrison was Nicholas Slocum, who arrived on his ship "Eagle" in 1795. He named the town after himself, Harrisonburg, Virginia. In 1814, John Duryea chartered the brig "Annandale" from Nicholas Slocum to explore and trade with the Native Americans living around what is now Harrison. After spending several weeks trading goods with them, Duryea returned to solidify his claim to this area by building a stockade here. The first permanent European settlement was made at Easton Rapids by Anthony Johnson and James Armstrong in 1786-87 during the French and Indian War (1784-1789). Johnson and Armstrong were members of General Edward Braddock's army that laid siege to Fort Duquesne on July 14th, 1786 while under cover of darkness. After successful negotiations with indigenous leaders resulting in food and weapons being given back to the British forces., they continued their march upriver until reaching Easton Rapids where they built a log cabin known as Espanola House which still stands today within walking distance of many local businesses including Harrison's famous Slinger Mill Museum operated by Friends Of The mill.. A year later he founded West Point on Staten Island which served as an important military post for much of Upper Manhattan during both world wars before its closure following World War II .
