Gloversville, located in the town of Northampton, New York, was founded by Nicholas Glovers in 1776. The village was named after Nicholas's father, Gloverstown. In 1825, the village became a part of the newly formed Towns of Northampton and White Plains. The Village Committee was organized in 1881 and began to provide services such as schools, libraries, and a post office. In 1933, the towns merged into one municipality and Gloversville became part of that entity. In 1975, the name change once again to Northampton-White Plains Borough. On July 1st of that year, it was announced that Gloversville would be joining the larger city of Buffalo as its newest borough seat. At first glance it may seem like an odd move given that Gloversville had no direct connection to Buffalo or even Niagara Falls; however, under new mayor John Pappas' administration this decision made sense based on their shared goals for both municipalities: To increase retail development within Gloversville while also promoting sports and cultural events in north central Buffalo which were large draws for residents and tourists alike. Since becoming a borough all aspects have been focused on marketing Northampton-White Plains as a destination for shopping and businesses with an emphasis on growth potential. This has included investments in infrastructure such as roads and bridges which have allowed for increased commerce within our community; plus recent renovations to several local businesses including an Allstate Arena (home of the Buffalo Sabres) which opened up in 2010 along with Grange Parkade Shopping Center just south of town Hall Square where shoppers can find unique brands like Macy's and Sears along with over 40 restaurants including nationally acclaimed spots like Il Mulino Italian restaurant & lounge as well as popular tourist destinations like Niagara Falls Adventure Park & Scenic Railroad Museum close by. The success seen thus far has led to speculation that future annexations could occur if population growth rates continue at their current level or if other communities around us become interested in partnering with us – something we are already quite prepared for!
