In 1840, the regiment was redesignated as Company A of The 1st Regiment Artillery. The artillery company fought in the Mexican-American War and during Reconstruction in America. The 1st Regiment Artillery reorganized in 1861 and became Company E of The 2nd Regiment Artillery. In 1886, company E became a battalion and transferred to the 3rd Brigade (Jeffersonshire County) of General John Crampton's Union Army Corps. A fire destroyed most of Gloversville on December 9th, 1888 while under construction on what would become known as Battery Wagner at Main Street and Railroad Avenue

Gloversville is a town in Greene County, New York, United States. The population was 1,547 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Utica-Rome, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Gloversville was Nicholas Glover on July 5, 1776. Glover immigrated from Rhode Island and named his home "Glover's mill." In 1825, John Aiken erected the first permanent house in Gloversville and served as its first postmaster. In 1848, the town of Gloversville became an incorporated village when it amalgamated with two other villages in Greene County: Rome and Westminster. The name originated from a local river crossing over which travelers could take either direction to get to Utica or Rome. In 1862, the name of the town changed to Hickson after General James Hickson who fought with distinction during the American Civil War for the Union. In 1889–1890, construction began on what would become known as "the Great Northern Railway" between Buffalo and Rochester; this train depot helped stimulate economic development in Gloversville and neighboring townships during that time period. The population of Hickson declined rapidly following World War II due to lack of demand for housing within commuting distance of jobs located in Buffalo and Rochester; however, some residents did move back into Hickson beginning in the late 1960s following a resurgence in population growth throughout Greene County due to new technology industries such as information technology and telecommunications companies headquartered thereabouts. This upward trend has continued into recent years with minority populations becoming more prevalent within both rural areas outside metropolitan Utica-Rome while also increasing numbers of retirees seeking green space within easy access to shopping malls/markets/ transportation hubs like Utica-Rome itself).
