Gloversville, located on the east side of New York State, is an agricultural town with a population of just over 5,000. The town was named after George Glover, a surveyor who helped plat the town in 1807. The first settlers arrived in what is now Gloversville around 1800 and started farming rice and other agricultural products. In 1818, a post office was established in Gloversville and the community grew rapidly. By 1830, there were two stores and twenty-five houses in the community. The early residents built churches and schools in Gloversville but soon abandoned the town due to its small size and lack of amenities. However, by 1840, some new settlers had arrived and started building homes in Gloversville. By 1850, there were twelve homes in the community and it hadgrown to over 1,000 people. The early residents also developed a strong local trade relationship with neighboring towns including Oneonta and Malone. In 1857, when New York state became a Union State under President James Buchanan, Gloversville became part of Hunterdon County which included most of northeastern New York State. At this time, Hunterdon County was primarily agrarian with small amounts of manufacturing activity. However, because of its location on the East Side of New York State (which was then considered rural), Gloversville quickly began to experience urbanization as more people moved into the area for work or study opportunities. In 1907-1908*,Glovervillians rebuilt their original grist mill which still stands today as one of their most distinguishing landmarks*.* *This event is typically considered to be whenglovevillians emerged as an socio-economic power center within their region.*.*

Gloversville is a small town located in Monroe County, New York, United States. The population was 571 at the 2010 census. The community likely started as a farming village named Gloverstown in the late 1700s. It was renamed after Samuel Glover, who explored and surveyed the area in 1784. In 1827, it became the capital of Monroe County and was home to both the county seat (Monroe) and the state capitol. The first post office in Gloversville opened in 1828. The community rapidly developed into an agricultural center due to its fertile land and easy access to water supplies. By 1860, gloversville had two churches and 25 residents. After years of steady growth, however,gloversville experienced a downturn during the 20th century due to numerous factors including World War I shortages of goods, economic recessiones around this time period, increased competition from other villages throughout New York State for jobs within commuting distance (especially Utica), and natural disasters such as floods in 1976 and 1984 which destroyed many homes/ businesses/ farms/etc.. However by 2000 Gloversville had bounced back somewhat thanks to new development (including several large housing developments) along with increasing tourism capabilities which have led to more business investment/ job creation – giving hope for continued growth over time!
