Glens Falls, New York is a city in Sullivan County, New York, United States. The population was 20,871 at the 2010 census. The City of Glens Falls was incorporated on December 5, 1864. The first settler in what is now Glens Falls was John Fenton who homesteaded land in 1824. He and his family were the last to arrive in this area of Sullivan County and were the first to erect a cabin on the site that would become Glens Falls. In 1827, Samuel Hendrickson purchased from Fenton an tract of land lying northwest of present-day Glens Falls for $450 dollars cash. In 1865, the local village of Glens Falls was organized by act of Congress under the name "Fayetteville." At its incorporation it had a population of just over 100 citizens; but within five years it had grown to more than 1,500 people due to immigration from Ireland and other parts of Great Britain. During its early days as a village, Ghentown boasted both public building and educational facilities which have long since been replaced or surpassed by those found in larger cities today. A schoolhouse (1865) as well as churches (First Methodist Church 1870), post office (1885), grocery store (1911), block sawmill (1912) and two factories are among original buildings still extant today within Ghentown limits today. In 1922 when Ghentown lost its charter as an incorporated town it reverted back to Village status though all vestiges from its past remain extant including such public buildings as library/theater complex built 1927-29 with state-of-the art features including sound systems and projectors - one also remains operational! Finally thanks largely to efforts by preservationists over many years some evidence has been successfully restored or reconstructed within walls once demolished – most notably restoration work done on three remaining structures - Ladies’ Auxiliary No 2 School brick building erected c1920s adjacent Main Street between First Avenue & Third Street which housed a convent until it fell into disrepair circa1960; Ladies’ Auxiliary No 3 School brick building erected c1930 opposite Second Avenue between First Avenue & Third Street which housedglen falls school until it fell into disrepair circa1960 also partially reconstructed; Ladies’ Auxiliary No 4 School brick building erected c1940 adjoining Third Avenue betweenFirstAvenue&ThirdStreet which houseda skating rink until it fell into disrepair circa1960 also partially reconstructed All three structures have been listed on National Register of Historic Places

Glens Falls, New York (population: 27,000) is the largest town in upstate New York and one of the most important commercial and cultural centres in the state. It is also a federally recognised Indian reserve. The community was founded by Scots-Irish settlers in 1784 as a small farming village on the lower Hudson River. By 1810, Glens Falls had become an important junction on the Erie Canal. In 1825, it became a stop on the Bleeker Trail between Buffalo and New York City. The townspeople built several impressive brick buildings including Glens Falls Academy (now part of Lock Haven University), which served as a public school until 1922; and the oldest civic building still standing in Glens Falls –dating from 1824 –the County Courthouse. The population of Glens Falls decreased during World War II due to heavy military buildups near by; however, it rebounded following 1945 when local industry began to resurgence with new highway construction coming through town. This growth continued until 2000 when preferences for more rural lifestyle led to a decrease in population

In 1827, the town erected a large stone clocktower, which still stands today on Main Street. The town also developed an agricultural economy with crops such as potatoes, onions, apples and corn being grown. In the early 21st century, Glens Falls has experienced significant growth thanks to its proximity to Buffalo and its position as a bedroom and industrial center for the region. The city's economic vitality has led to development around downtown and other neighborhoods including Elmira Road and Harrison Avenue; these areas are home to numerous small businesses and restaurants as well as several high-end retail stores.
