Glens Falls, New York is a small town located in upstate New York. The population was 9,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Oneonta city-county government and is bordered by Onondaga County to the north, Cayuga County to the east, and Seneca County to the south. The name Glens Falls comes from two different sources: one source says that it derived from "Gleann Fáilte", meaning "grand waterfall," while another source reports that it came from Gaelic for "green meadow". The first settler in Glens Falls was David Brown who arrived in 1786. He built a log cabin on what is now Main Street. In 1802, John McLaren settled here with his wife and children. They built a gristmill which they operated until 1818 when they sold it to Aaron Burr. By 1830, there were over 20 families living in Glens Falls. By 1860, there were only 10 families remaining and by 1870 only 4 remained. In 1836, Rev Nathaniel Pusey founded what would become St Peters Episcopal Church here in Glens Falls after he moved back to America from England following the death of his father-in-law who had been bishop of London. The church was dedicated on May 12th 1840 by Bishop Pusey himself with many locals also attending including local farmers George Armstrong Crampton (1806-1875) and Elijah Hicks (1794-1850).
