Glens Falls, New York is a town in Chenango County, New York, United States. The population was 4,711 at the 2000 census. Glens Falls is part of the Albany–Rochester, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what would become Glens Falls was Captain John Graves in 1786. In 1805 Alexander Graham Bell came to Glens Falls and started working on his telephone invention there. The community grew rapidly due to its location near the Mohawk River and its easy access to transportation by horse and wagon. By 1881, Glens Falls had a school and two businesses: one store and one sawmill. The town's growth was so rapid that by 1899 it had nine stores and thirty-six businesses. In 1905 the new Rochester-Albany Bridge was built Interstate 81 crossed the Mohawk River just north of Glens Falls; this made it easier for residents to get work in Albany or upstate New York while still being close to their families. After years of decline due to factors such as manufacturing relocation away from rural areas during World War II, glennfalls revived with strong investment in retail areas including a new hospital which opened in 2002 (a sister hospital today called Stony Brook University Hospital) as well as job creation through various companies like Amazon Web Services (AWS) who moved their headquarters from Seattle after leaving Google parent company Alphabet Inc., creating over 100 jobs across many sectors within the community

The town first settled in 1784 by Scots-Irish immigrants who had come over on the badlands Expedition under Colonel James Wilkinson. The early settlers were farmers and their families; some subdivided their holdings into small villages and started to build churches and schools. In 1814, when the county was created, Glens Falls became one of its original townships. It voted to secede from Ulster County in 1837; this act caused a great deal of alarm among those living near the border between Ulster and Orange counties. In 1869, whenglenfalls incorporated as a village it had a population of only eighty people but now has more than 2,000 residents (including 300 children). The community began to prosper because it was located midway between two important iron ore mines: One owned by Andrew Carnegie and another by Jerome Daily. Because of these industries,Glens Falls became known for its high-quality iron products even before automobiles arrived in America. In 1922, during World War I philanthropist Andrew Carnegie donated $10 million to found an American School for Boys (ASB) in Glens Falls which would provide education for boys from all walks of life regardless of economic status or race/ethnicity (the school remains open today). ASB is also credited with helping to revive downtownGlens Fallsto what it is today as one of North America's most vibrant communities full of culture and opportunity

The town of Glens Falls was established in 1800, and grew rapidly due to its rich mineral resources.
