The Coast Guard has been providing service to the community in Glens Falls, New York since 1899. In that time, they have donated many items and services to the community. The Glens Falls Coast Guard Station was established on December 21, 1903. The station is located at the mouth of the Penobscot River and is responsible for policing and patrolling the coast of New York state.
Glens Falls is a small town in upstate New York, located near the Canada-US border. The population was 3,531 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chenango County, New York metropolitan area and is included in the Albany–Schenectady–Troy, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town began as a small farming community on high ground east of modern Glens Falls. By 1892 it had a school and five businesses. In 1905 it became an incorporated village with a population of 234 people. The first post office opened in 1907 and continued service until 1959. In 1912, George Washington Smith platted what would become Glens Falls Township on land that he had purchased from John Fenton for $1,000 cash. He named it after his home state of Virginia and donated the township to the village for development into an agricultural community with churches and schools. As early as 1916 there were plans to build a water pipeline from White Lake to Glens Falls so thatglenfalls could be self-sufficient in water supplies but these plans never came to fruition because of World War I disruptions caused by warring factions within America's Great Lakes region. On July 1st 1915, during World War I veteran's memorial services at St John's Episcopal Church in Glens Falls Village, President Woodrow Wilson delivered his address "The Gifford Lectures" which promoted self-reliance among American citizens through economic development schemes like this one which would help rebuild Europe following its devastation during WWI; however due to patriotic protests by local residents these programs were abandoned without ever achieving their goals or benefits! During those years much progress was made in developing agriculture here including raising chickens (to provide eggs), pigs (for bacon), cows (for milk), apples (from tree orchard), cottonseed oil production beginning around 1920 and finally construction of what would become today’s central business district starting when Route 9A was straightened out between 1948 and 1951 connecting rural areas with downtown Glens Falls! glenfalls started becoming more diversified with more services available such as restaurants/bars/cafes etc., while still remaining attached to its traditional agriculture industry roots! However due to increasing pollution problems faced by many communities along both our countries' borders things changed rapidly here too as automotive manufacturing boomed thanks largely to General Motors who built their new factory just outside town limits soon after opening its doors!! With all this new industrial activity coming into town various shopping malls sprouted up throughout town complete with big box stores taking over once again some pretty large families were able to find affordable housing here but also brought about increased traffic levels creating health concerns for locals especially since major highways ran right through town center thus compromising access!! Notwithstanding all these challenges over timeglenfalls has managed keep its identity strong despite growing pains though most notably due largely to how supportive its community spirit has been when times have been tough!
