The Glens Falls Air National Guard activated on Dec. 12, 1947 and has been stationed at Elmira Army Airfield since then. The unit has deployed to many locations including Guam, Okinawa and Germany.
Glens Falls is a small town in upstate New York, located on the Mohawk River. The population was 2,844 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Sullivan County and home to the Glens Falls Military Air Station. The name comes from two large waterfalls, one called Glenfalloch and one called Glencoe. The first settlers in what is now Glens Falls were Native Americans who arrived there circa 1793. The first white man to live in present-day Glens Falls was James McGillivray, who purchased land from Chief Wanganosh in 1812. In 1814, William Lyon Mackenzie built a log cabin near where Glencoe falls are today. One year later, he married Catherine Welsh and settled here permanently with his new family. In 1825, John Stephenson bought land from Macleans for $1,200 and began developing it into a town site that would eventually encompass parts of Sullivan County and northwestern Kinderhook County. He named his community after his father-in-law's birthplace – Fort George (now Albany). By 1830, Glens Falls had grown to over 1,500 people and included a bank and several churches as well as schools, stores and residences. During the Panic of 1907–1908 which rocked America's economy, many farms around Glens Falls went bankrupt or failed due to tight money markets; some residents left for other nearby towns during this time period. However, most people continued to live and work in their homes until 1908 when they were forced out by government orders during an effort to improve public morals in rural areas across America following the publication of "The Gilded Age". In 1916–17 when World War I broke out overseas – including within New York state – many people found themselves displaced as their homes were taken over by military forces or used for storage purposes at Camp Upton on the Mohawk River south of Buffalo NY until 1919 when it became an airfield base known as General George Marshall USAAF airport which served primarily American troops during World War II RAF Bomber Command operations against Nazi Germany (Operation Overlord) beginning on 20 September 1940 until 9 May 1945 inclusive). Many locals who had grown accustomed to farm life returned home during this time period while others stayed away completely: about 60% of pre-warGlenfalls population remained resident according to 2000 census data while 30% relocated outside of NY State altogether within 3 decades post war despite severe economic dislocation caused by war/flation uncertainties; effects of post-war demography still linger today with significant percentages living below poverty line & having school dropouts rates greater than those achieving graduation levels***

Glens Falls, New York is a town in Sullivan County, New York, United States. The population was 5,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo–Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Glens Falls" was given to the falls by General George Washington during his expedition up the Niagara River in 1789 as a thank you for military support he had received from the British during the American Revolution. The first settler in Glens Falls was John Armstrong who arrived in 1801. He erected a small cabin on a bluff overlooking the falls and named it Armstrong's Bluff after himself and his brother-in-law James Armstrong. There were no waterfalls until 1825 when Major Moses Eaton discovered and installed an early water pump at Glen Cove dam which created Glen Cove Park upstream from Armstrong's Bluff. In 1827, Alexander Graham Bell developed what would become one of Glens Falls' most famous businesses – Bell Telephone Company (now Verizon). At that time, phone service was not available over landlines and required customers to go through carriers like ATT or Western Union to communicate with others in their area. To provide competition for these wireline companies, Bell established its own telegraph line between Glens Falls and Buffalo via Saratoga Springs and built a tower atop Glen Cove dam which served as its headquarters until 1901 when it moved to Oneonta where it remains today. During World War II, many soldiers stationed at Fort Drum were quartered here including both Ulysses S Grant (who later became President) and Franklin D Roosevelt who also had their barracks located close by at nearby Elmhurst Manor estate before moving into White Plains Army Camp east of town starting on October 15th 1942 before eventually occupying Manhattan Beach proper on December 8th 1942 just across from Times Square following Japan's surrender! In 1951, Glens Falls began hosting summertime Strawberry Festival which continues annually to this day outside of City Hall Parkette Grounds on Main Street fronting onto Niagara River! In addition to tourism purposes Twelfth Night celebrated every year celebrates Stonestreet Methodist Episcopal Church -seat of local government since 1795 - being dedicated on this date each year with processions surrounding Cathedral while choruses sing carols throughout evening!
In 1837, the first post office was established in Glens Falls. The town name was changed to Glenville in 1854. In 1898, the town became a village and in 1916 it became an incorporated municipality. During World War II,Glens Falls was Headquarters for the United States Strategic Bombing Survey.
