MARSALES, Calif. — Marines deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan received special gifts in a coordinated effort from the Marine Corps Foundation. The gift set is a parting reminder of the servicemen and women who have dedicated their lives to our country. The items include a SAM-7 grenade launcher, M1A2 Abrams tanks and other military equipment. “This gift sets up a contrast between our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq where there is no combat and we are providing logistical support,” said Maj. Gen. Rick Manning, commanding general of Marine Forces Pacific Region 5th Marine Division at Camp Pendleton here Sunday night. “It sends a message that these troops will stay with us forever through service in uniform.”

Glen Cove is a town in Nassau County, New York, United States. The population was 8,547 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Hempstead–Uniondale–New Hyde Park, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was first settled in 1785 and named for veteran General James Glen (1746-1821), who fought with distinction in the American Revolutionary War. In 1814,Congress established a post office at present-day Glen Cove with two letters: "G" for George and "Cove" for Old Kings Highway. By 1840, most of what is now Glen Cove had been developed as an agricultural community by farmers from Ulster County and New York City. The opening of the Erie Canal in 1824 led to increased trade and development in the town; by 1830, Glen Cove had become one of the largest commercial centers on Long Island. In 1838, John Davenport erected a large frame house on what is now Main Street. Davenport became one of Groton's earliest boosters for early settlement on Long Island and played an important role in organizing settlers into what would become Groton Township. He donated land to make way for what is now Broadwalk Mall; this area also includes much of today's downtownGlen Cove

The Marine Regiment was founded on 8 December 1775 when Colonel Edward Braddock led a group of American colonists against British forces at the Battle of Saratoga. On 15 February 1776, General George Washington awarded the first Medal of Honor to Private Robert Ewing for saving the life of Major Charles Lee during the battle. In 1847, Sergeant William Tilton gifting three rifles to Marines at Beaufort Harbor in South Carolina helped start what would become known as " riflemen's row" in America. In 1861, Marines gave gift baskets filled with food and cigarettes to troops stationed at Fort Sumter in Charleston, South Carolina during the Civil War. On 25 October 1917, Lieutenant General John Jellicoe ordered all Naval Forces Europe (NAVFORE) units operating off Norway into action against German submarines U-boats under Commander von Tirpitz. As part of his Operation Neptune's Spear, LtGen Jellicoe ordered Rear Admiral Ernest Hemingway (Commanding Officer USN Squadron 5) and Rear Admiral Arthur Kugeler (Commander USN Squadron 6) to give each warship carrying 3rd Battalion 4th Marines commandos who would plant mines along Norwegian coast in order that no convoy could cross without being detected by U-boats. This event is considered one of the greatest naval actions ever mounted by Naval Forces Europe Union (NAVFORE). This donation set off an annual tradition where NATO members send Christmas presents directly to their respective Marine battalions stationed abroad each year on Boxing Day

Glen Cove is a town in Sullivan County, New York, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Syracuse–Onondaga, NY-MS-PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was first established in 1795 and 1796. In 1814 it became a village. The village merged with the town on December 15, 1854. On February 14, 1860 the town attained full incorporation as Glen Cove Township. On October 15, 1870 the name of the township was changed to Sullivan County when it took over all of Warren and Oneida Counties east of Kingston from Fulton County. Glen Cove is located at (41°09′29″N 73°25′24″W). According to the USGS National Elevation Database, its elevation is 571 feet (183 m). It has a total area of , making it one of the smallest towns inSullivan County by land area but one of its most populous with over 1,000 people as of 2010 according to the Town's website. The climate in this area is characterized by mild to cool temperatures year-round and many dense forests; average monthly highs are around 21 °F (10 °C). Snowfall typically occurs during winter months; an annual average worth about 2 inches (5 cm) falls within January through March alone! Despite these cold winters (.7 °C on average yearly), there have been several years when temperatures reached 100 degrees Fahrenheit or more! The summers here are very hot though not quite as oppressive as some places in upstate New York! The monthly high temperature averages around 85 degrees F (30 degrees C)! However recent reports show that temperatures have been trending upwards again so stay tuned for updates!
