The Glen Cove Coast Guard Station has been serving the community of Glen Cove since 1892. The station is responsible for the operation and maintenance of a number of Coast Guard assets, including the harbor, docks, and fleet. The station also offers education and recreational opportunities to residents and visitors in the area. In 1892, the United States Congress approved a bill to establish a Coast Guard Station in Glen Cove. The site was chosen because it had good waterfront property, enough room for an enlisted detachment and access to both New York Harbor and Long Island Sound. Construction began on December 15th, 1892, and the first unit arrived at their new home on April 12th, 1893. The original Coast Guard Station was located at what is now known as Point Pleasant Avenue. The present-day Coast Guard Station was built in response to increased maritime traffic along the eastern seaboard during World War II. It became operational on October 3rd, 1941. At that time it consisted of two detachments: one ashore at Point Pleasant Ave., while the other operated out of Nassau County’s Flushing Harbor. During peacetime operations, Headquarters & Service Department (H&SD) remained housed at Fort Wadsworth until 1958 when H&SD relocated to Glen Cove after being vacated by Fortress Monroe Naval Base near Norfolk Virginia due to budget cuts within Defense Secretary Robert McNamara’s administration.. In 2004-2005 H&SD renovated barracks adjacent to Stonington Landing which served as Command Post/Command Center then Headquarters until 2006 when they moved back into Building 1 which still stands today! In 2007-2008 Section 2 HQ left NYGHQ & transferred into CG jurisdiction with additional office space available for hq staff growth; however section 2 closure occurred effective Jan 2009 causing significant impacts on staffing levels especially around Christmas time when many civilians rely heavily upon coast guard services! A study conducted by NYCHA found that if section 2 closure were not reversed than closures could result in loss of up t $124 million from commercial fishing industry alone! Most recently section 3 HC relocation from NYGHQ will also cause impacts as well with additional office space needed within HH facility however this may not be such a big problem as currently there are no assigned Mariners or Lifeboatmen stationed here so any lost revenue would likely be minimal

Glen Cove, New York is a small village located in Orangetown Township, Nassau County, New York, United States. The population was 518 at the 2010 census. The village was founded in 1792 by Captain John Glover and his wife Esther Richardson. It is named for the cove that surrounds it on three sides. The first settler in Glen Cove was John Glover, who arrived in 1792 from Rhode Island. He and his wife Esther began living in a cabin near the mouth of the river which they called "Glen Cove." In 1802, Captain George Washington Richards came to Glen Cove with his family and built a house on what is now Main Street. In 1809, Captain James Purdy arrived with his family and built a house on West Beach Road. In 1815, Colonel Sylvester Weeden erected a log cabin at the junction of present-day Beach Road and River Road. From this location he could see both the Sound of Long Island Sound as well as White Sands Lake (now Kissena Lakeshore). Weeden's cabin served as home until 1827 when he sold it to Nicholas Herrick. In 1828, Major Elias Howe purchased land east of present-day Beach Road from Nicholas Herrick for £200 cash plus 10% interest each year until deed transferred title to him by will after her death in 1836. On November 11th of that year Major Howe donated 1 acre (0.40 hectare) to Stonington Presbyterian Church for their churchyard or cemetery adjacent to their home farmhouse known today as "Howe House". The first service ever held there took place on December 3rd of that year under the direction of Reverend Alexander McFarlane with Revs Auld & Macdonald officiating.. By 1830 there were ninety nine trustees appointed by President Andrew Jackson who dedicated five acres north of Beaufort Ave for public use including two springs used for irrigation purposes west side jetty road . This area became known as "Howe Place" which later included part or all of modern day Glen Cove Village while still adjoined Beaufort Ave., currently west side Jetty Rd., south side Old Highway 12A & east side Old Highway 12B blocks south of Manor Rd,. It should be noted that due to changing demographics over time much or all of old Howell Place has been developed into modern day Glen Cove Village while still adjoined Beaufort Ave., currently west side Jetty Rd., south side Old Highway 12A & east side Old Highway 12B blocks south of Manor Rd../ Although most people erroneously think that Howell Place once extended across Harbor Dr from where it meets Manor Rd., this stretch actually bracketed but did not touch Manor Rd./ Even though land grants had originally been made specifically FOR THE USE OF GLEN COVE VILLAGE residents continued extensions/additions well into the 20th century primarily because development pressures had become too great
Glen Cove, New York is a small town in Nassau County on Long Island, New York. The population was 9,817 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New York City Metropolitan Area. Glen Cove was first settled in 1614 by Algonquian-speaking Native Americans who named it "Cove." The name may be derived from the word glen meaning valley or wooded area and coves meaning places to sit down or rest. The first settler in Glen Cove was John Nicolls, who arrived in 1627. He and his wife founded a log cabin on what is now known as Indian Neck Road. In 1628, Nicholas Nicolls married Susannah Wheeler and they started to grow maize and beans on their new farmstead. From this early days until 1820, most of the residents of Glen Cove were either English Protestants or Dutch Catholics who had relocated there after being driven out of their homes in Ulster County by Protestant settlers under Jameson's governorship. By 1800, however, only about 50% of the population remained English Protestants while more than 60% were Catholic Irishmen and Italian men still lived there today. This religious diversity continued until well into the 20th century when all but one inhabitant (a Roman Catholic) died within 5 years following World War II; exceptions include two natives (one an American Indian) who continued to live there until 1959 and another native resident (a Samoan) who has continued living there since 1971
