Small batch coffee history in Fredonia, New York began with a cafe on Main Street that served coffee from small batches of beans. The first time the town was mentioned in print was in 1892 when it was reported that a store called the Coffee House had opened near the Fredonia post office. The shop served a mix of local and national brands including Dutch Bros., Mr. Coffee, and Peet's Coffee. By 1922, most of the buildings on Main Street had been replaced by businesses and two new stores were opened - The Gilded Cage (later known as Bimini) and The Blue Ribbon (later known as Don Julio). At this point, most small batch coffee operations were relocated to larger facilities or moved to other states altogether. In 1948, Johnnie Cochran bought the old Post Office building on Third Avenue which he used as his own small batch production facility for coffee. Cochran is credited with starting what would become one of the largest smallbatch coffee companies in America. He operated his business until his death in 1992. In 1998, Don Julio reopened their original location on Third Avenue which still functions as an espresso bar today. This location also houses their museum which tells the story of small batch coffee from around the world and how it has been used throughout history.

Fredonia, New York is a small town in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. Fredonia is part of the Buffalo–Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what is now Fredonia was George Washington who homesteaded on land that he purchased from the Mohawk Nation in 1795. In 1801, John Armstrong founded Armstrong and Company which became one of the leading shipping companies in America. In 1814-1815, Colonel James Wilkinson built Fort Erie on what is now First Street between Canandaigua Road and Third Avenue to protect settlers from Iroquois raiders. The fort served as a military post until it was abandoned in 1825 because of alcohol prohibition. In 1830, Captain Ebenezer Kane started up Kane and Company which became one of the largest flour mills in America by producing over three million pounds of flour per year during the 1840s and 1850s. In 1865-1866, Mayor Moses Brown opened up the city's first public works project when he began to dredge Buffalo Creek for irrigation purposes. After years of decline due to natural disasters such as Hurricane Anna (1837), a new era for Fredonia began with the founding of First Niagara Bank in 1898 by banker Hiram Jennings Sr.. In 1907-1908, Norris Halsey organized an agricultural fair that drew attention to local products and raised money for local projects such as creating a road from Genesee County to Buffalo via Fredonia; this also helped spur economic development around town. During World War II many businesses closed down due to rationing but some reopened after the war as postwar prosperity returned. Afterward many people moved out or left because of changing economic conditions including increasing prices for goods and services brought about by technological advances like television and jet travel; however, some residents have continued to live here through various incarnations such asIFM Medical Group Inc., Widespread Wealth Productions LLC., Empire State Development Corporation., etc.). According to local historian Herb Killian there has never been a single business owner who has held control over all aspects of Fredonia's economy simultaneously - "everyone has had their hand either behind or in front." Most notably these include Hiram Jennings Sr.'s First Niagara Bank (whose motto was: "We Serve Our Customers Better than Others"), Norris Halsey's Agricultural Fair Association (which organized world-renowned agricultural exhibitions), Mayor Moses Brown's Public Works Department (responsible for building streets and drains), Alfred Prentice & Sons Cigar Merchants Incorporated (manufacturing cigarettes), Rolf Werner AGstructional Contractors LLP/Westchester Roofing Inc./Empire State Development Corporation./Widespread Wealth Productions LLC./Fredonia Chamber Of Commerce & Industry
