Fredonia, NY is a small town in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 1,278 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo–Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. Fredonia is known for its apple orchards and cheese factory. The first humans to live in what is now Fredonia were Native Americans who hunted and gathered wild plants and animals in the area around present-day West Seneca Lake. In 1795, French Canadian settlers arrived from Quebec and founded a trading post on the east bank of theSeneca River opposite what is now Fort Niagara. They named their settlement after Pierre-Nicolas de La Salle, Sieur de la Salle's Expedition (1785-87). In 1814, American troops overran Canada and established themselves as an imperial government under President James K. Polk in Toronto; they renamed Ottawa as Washington City in honor of George Washington. The city of Ottawa was incorporated as a village by act of Parliament on April 14, 1825; it became a town by an act of Assembly on February 3, 1827. On March 9th 1829 the village merged with the towns of Buffalo and Niagara Falls to form one large municipality called Fredonia; this merger has been cited as one reason why Fredonia remains unincorporated today. On July 10th 1870 during Reconstruction efforts Fredericktonians supported rebel General Smedley Butler while he fought against Ulysses S Grant's army near Buffalo Creek Bridge across the river at present day Elmira; Butler emerged victorious but many residents fled into exile following his ouster from power two years later during Reconstruction days known as Emancipation Day when all slaves were emancipated throughout America including those living within Confederate territory south of Yankee lines until 1865 when that land was given to Union soldiers returning home following that war's end Federica Macdonald born October 11th 1888 to parents Angus MacDonald & Nellie Elizabeth Macdonald moved from Banffshire Scotland with her family to take up farming near Fredonia NY when she was just 8yrs old settling after her father lost his job we raised 5 boys & 2 girls heretil our oldest son Craig died age 26yrs old last week my youngest boy John died aged only 3yr old just before Christmas so very sadly loss experienced herein too but still can't believe it happened let alone these past few months have had such amazing thoughts about how things could have possibly ended better for all involved

Fredonia was founded in 1795 by John Fredonia and his wife, Sarah. The town began as a trading post on the Susquehanna River near modern-day Harrisburg. From its inception, Fredonia was an agricultural community with a focus on farming cotton. During the American Revolutionary War, Fredonia sided with the British. In 1783, Fredonia became part of Pennsylvania and in 1795 it became part of New York state. In 1827, the town voted to switch from corn to wheat production and soon developed into one of the leading wheat growing communities in New York State. In 1852, Frederickonia merged with other Wheat Towns to become the first such municipality in New York State. The commercial center of Frederoni continued to grow through the years until it closed its doors in 1978 after suffering from economic decline and declining population levels. Today, much of what remains of Fredonia are its many contributing historical institutions: The John Fenton History Museum is open daily 9am-4pm; The Sarah Fenton House is open daily 10am-3pm; The Edmunds Ford Historical Center is open Monday-Saturday 9am-5pm; and The Jimmie Cavanaugh Folklore Museum is open Tuesday-Saturday 10am-4pm (closed Sundays).
