The history of marine gifts in East Rockaway, New York goes back to 1876. Captain John Fenton purchased land in what is now East Rockaway and began developing it into a saltpeter production base. In 1878, he erected the first saltpeter mill in what is now East Rockaway. By 1903, the company had become one of the largest producers of saltpeter in the world. In 1916, Captain John Fenton's son, William Fenton Jr., became president and CEO of The Fenton Salt Company. The company continued to produce saltpeter until it merged with other companies in 1957 to form The American Salt Corporation. In 1961, The American Salt Corporation changed its name to The Eastrockaways Company Incorporated. In that year, the company donated land for a new high school inEastRockaway and built it onsite. Today, the school provides education for students from grades PK-12 as well as training opportunities for local businesses and entrepreneurs.
East Rockaway is a borough in the New York City borough of Queens. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. The name "East Rockaway" is thought to come from two sources: one is from a Native American word meaning "hollow on the hill," and the other may be derived from the Dutch language meaning "a promontory." The borough was established in 1898 as part of Queens. It was consolidated with Brooklyn in 1898 and became an independent city on April 1, 1955. On November 12, 1964, East Rockaway obtained cityhood by referendum and became one of only three cities in New York City to have this right. On October 15, 1990, East Rockaway voters passed a referendum authorizing annexation by Queens due to its high crime rate and lack of infrastructure. The annexation process took many years due to legal challenges including litigation filed by both sides over whether annexed communities should share services such as firefighting or police protection with their larger neighbor; however, on January 14th 2001 all but 3 of the annexed communities voted yes on Question 2 which would have annexed them into Queens proper. As part of Queens' 2014 reorganization following New York State's redistricting following the US Census results announced in December 2013, East Rockaway lost its original placement within Queens proper (along with Fariaqua and Wantagh) with properties within Community Board 11 being transferred to Community Board 13 while those within CB 11 were reassigned to CB 10

East Rockaway is a borough in the New York City borough of Queens. It is located on the eastern shore of Long Island and includes the neighborhoods of East Hampton, Fresh Meadows, Ronkonkoma, and Breezy Point. The population was 909 at the 2010 census. The first attempt to settle this area was made in 1624 by Captain John Smith and his associates from Jamestown on Virginia's James River. They named their new settlement for Sir Edmund Andros, 3rd Baronet who had come overland from Englandassistance during King George's War. To commemorate this event, a small park was established near where the current Eastern Parkway meets Roosevelt Drive in 2014. In 1795, two brothers named Augustus Hooker bought land east of present-day Ronkonkoma for $3 per acre ($40 per lot). They built a mill on an existing stream that became known as "Hooker Creek." This mill kept churning out flour until 1922 when it closed due to World War II shortages of food grains. In 1837, Isaac Monsen purchased land west of present-day East Hampton Village from Augustus Hooker for $2 per acre (equivalent to $48 per lot today). He developed what is now East Hampton into one of Long Island's most prosperous villages with large lots available for purchase and well-maintained streetscape. He also founded Monsen Academy which remains one of the most prestigious schools in eastern Long Island today. Monsen also donated land southeast of East Hampton Village to establish what is now Ronkonkoma Village; this village thrived until its closure in 1964 due to advancing age and other factors such as dwindling enrollment at local high schools . In 1853, German immigrant Friedrich Wilhelm Kiensler moved from Hamburg, Germany with his family to live on Long Island after being successful in business there . He renamed his community "Kienslerstown" after himself . The community prospered until 1955 when it too closed because many residents were Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi Germany
