East Rockaway is a small town in Nassau County, New York, United States. The population was 3,802 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Long Island City–Manhattan Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area. The history of coffee in East Rockaway goes back to 1824 when Nicholas Biddle started importing coffee from Brazil. In 1827, he opened a roasting and selling business on Hempstead Road in what is now known as "Biddle's Alley". In 1881, John Cavanaugh open the first grocery store in East Rockaway and began sell fresh roasted coffee beans from his home. This started what would become an important tradition for Cavanaugh's Coffee House - offering customers quality coffee at reasonable prices until it closed its doors in 1984. Since then, many other businesses have followed suit and helped make East Rockaway one of the most significant areas for espresso lovers on Long Island. Some of these include: Joe's Cafe & Coffeehouse (now defunct), Starbucks (now Dunkin' Donuts), and Zabar's deli (closed in 2007). Today there are still few if any places that offer high-quality cup of java than found within walking distance of Cavanaugh's Cafeteria or Joe's Bakery – all over which continue to serve up delicious espresso items!

East Rockaway, New York is a town in the Towns of Hempstead and Babylon on Long Island. It was established in 1795 by colonists from Connecticut. The population was 3,746 at the 2010 census. In 1868, East Rockaway became an incorporated village with a mayor and five trustees. In 1898 it became a town. The first coffee house in East Rockaway was "The Dutchman's" on Main Street on the east side of town, opened in 1827 by Pieter Janszoon van der Velde. In 1865, Jacobus de Grave opened "The Coffee House" on Bay Ridge Avenue across from the old post office building which had been built in 1794 as part of the Indian Treaty of Fort Stanwix between the Iroquois and English settlers. In 1892, Harry Peabody began his grocery store next door to "The Dutchman's". In 1926 Harry Peabody's son John Fenton took over ownership of the store and continued to operate it until he died in 1978. In 1961, Arthur Ashe played his first professional tennis match at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum against Fabulous Alfred Ellis Jr.. The match helped set up what is now known as Shea Stadium which then served as home field for both baseball (the Brooklyn Dodgers) and soccer (New York Cosmos). East Rockaway also saw its share of high-profile events during that time including three papal visits; Pope Pius IX came to see Philip II of Spain at Shea Stadium on October 9th 1911; Pope Paul VI arrived at JFK Airport on April 25th 1963; and Pope John XXIII made his pastoral visit to New York City on May 13th 1964 just before his election as Pope Paul VI.
East Rockaway is a borough in Queens, New York City. The population was 6,993 at the 2010 census. The ZIP code for East Rockaway is 11211. The first Europeans to sight and explore the area were the Dutch in 1624 and 1625 when they discovered a group of islands in what is now Bay Ridge on Staten Island. In 1626, Giovanni de' Medici commanded an expedition from Rome that visited the area and named it after his patron saint, St. John's Eve (March 25). In 1764, Englishman Robert Fulton created a navigation channel through Lighthouse Point between Gravesend Bay on Staten Island and Fresh Kills Creek on Long Island so ships could enter Brooklyn Harbour without fear of being attacked by French warships lying off Staten Island. This new connection made possible the importation of goods and passengers via ferries from points north to New York City much earlier than if they had been transported by sea. During World War II, EastRockaway was one of several areas within New York City bombed by the United States Army Air Forces during Operation Overlord; other bombarding sites were Midtown Manhattan (including Times Square), Newark Airport, Radio Hill/Bellevue Heights/Ditmar Park in Queens, and Fordham University in Bronxville. A post office called EastRockaway was established in 1814 but discontinued operations in 1821 because postal service was transferred from Westchester County to Queens under Governor George Washington Clinton Sr.'s orders following his move from Virginia to New York State as part of the Adams-Onis Treaty settlement which ended the American Revolution.

East Rockaway is a small town in the Town of Hempstead on Long Island, New York. The population was 7,574 at the 2000 census. It is part of the New York City borough of Queens. The town was formed from part of Hempstead Township in 1837 and grew rapidly due to its proximity to Manhattan and its shipbuilding industry. Shipyards and other businesses developed around docks located on the Great South Bay which made East Rockaway one of the most heavily populated areas on Long Island. As manufacturing declined in the early 21st century, many businesses closed or relocated to other parts of New York City or abroad. Today, East Rockaway contains a few dozen residences, an elementary school and a library as well as a couple thousand acres (200 hectares) of open space that forms part of the town's parks system. The local economy is based largely on agriculture: Farming, fishing, and hunting are among the mainstay industries.
East Rockaway was first settled in 1614 by the Dutch. It became part of the British Empire in 1807 and was renamed East India Companytown after its incorporation into that empire. In 1868 it was merged with Newtown to form the new town of East Rockaway. The population of East Rockaway peaked at over 30,000 in 1940, but has declined since then.
