The Army has been in the area for over 350 years. The first mention of an army in the area is from 1684 when a group of Dutch settlers, under command of Colonel Hendrick Luder, invaded and burned down the native village of Tappan Zee. The Dutch did not have an army at that time so they relied on their militia to fight against Native Americans. In 1775, General George Washington himself led a force against the British at Saratoga Springs. This event was historic because it marked the first time that Americans had fought alongside their British allies. After Saratoga there was a lull in military activity until 1797, when General John Burgoyne and his forces attacked New York City from the north. New York's Patriot Act (1798) made it illegal for any military man to be present within three miles of Manhattan without specific orders from Congress. The American forces were able to hold off Burgoyne's forces but were forced to retreat back into Manhattan after losing many men and supplies. Aftermath of the Saratoga campaign resulted in an order by Lieutenant General James Wolfe ordering all militiamen out of New Jersey due to fears that they might join up with Burgoyne if he took Philadelphia. This order caused such outcry among soldiers that several hundred thousand men refused to leave their homes and joined Wolfe's army instead. These dissidents became known as "The Sons Of Liberty." In 1799, Washington ordered all militiamen back into New Jersey due to increasing threats posed by French revolutionaries who were stirring up unrest throughout North America following revolutionary victories in Europe (the Seven Years' War). In 1809, both Napoleon Bonaparte and Alexander Pushkin received letters from Commodore John Stuyvesant praising their bravery during Battle Of Lake Erie which ended with control of Niagara Falls by United States Navy captain Oliver Hazard Perrynchuck. As a result of this victory US ambitions shifted from northwestern Canada towards central America where new routes awaited us routes through Central America via Mexico City and then on through Nicaragua direct to Panama on our journey across South America! Thus began what would come to be called "America's Expansion". From 1809-1821 there were no major engagements between American & Spanish armies however sporadic skirmishes occurred along US-Mexican border areas as both sides looked for ways open route through Central America into Peru (& Ecuador) bypassing San Miguel de los Llanos&Chincha Bay ports on Pacific Ocean Sea... [and] railroads cutting deep into Andes Mountains near Lima could bring troops directly southward fast enough: Ulysses S Grant march his Union Armies into Santiago de la Cruz Province ON September 24th 1886!!! So ends one era; another begins!

East Rockaway is a town in the New York City borough of Queens. It is situated on the east side of Long Island, between Jamaica and Nassau Counties. The population was 20,752 at the 2010 census. East Rockaway's ZIP Code is 11021. The first known inhabitants of what is now East Rockaway were Lenape people who lived there from 1624 to 1630. In 1664, English colonists named it after Sir Nicholas eastward-bound on his route from Manhattan to Kingston, Jamaica. In 1712, James Wright (1706-1790), an American Revolutionary War hero and member of the State Senate from New York County and later Mayor of New York City, donated land to establish a town in this location called Wrightstown on his estate in Hempstead Township developed by him and others. East Rockaway was incorporated as a town on February 6, 1892 by act of the New York State Legislature based upon objections raised by residents against plans for Smithtown which had been proposed near their community; Smithtown had been planned as a suburban village with extensive housing developments built along curves in existing woods that would havecut off access to freshwater springs serving the northeast corner of East Rockaway while imposing an undue environmental impact on residential areas within its boundaries. The townsite included three villages: Quincy Village (now part of Babylon), Clarkson Beach & West Babylon; and Southampton Village (now part of Fresh Meadows). On July 1, 1907 Stamford Bridge Electric Company became one of two municipalities within Eastern Townships when it merged with Southold Beach Electric Company which also included Clarkson Beach & West Babylon municipalities then located in Suffolk County west of Starbuck’s Point Light Railway Station. At that time Southold Beach consisted onlyof Clarkson Beach Village & Southampton Village while Quincy Village comprised all but a small portionof Hammondsport Road including parts Of Hawthorne Boulevard southwesterly thereof renamed Roosevelt Boulevard soon thereafter following purchases by Brooklyn Rapid Transit Corporation resultingfrom its acquisition by Metro-North Railroad in 1956; Hammondsport Road became North Park Avenue followingthe sale to Amtrak in 1969) On May 25th 1959 local officials participatedin ceremonies marking completionof constructionon new subway extension linking Whitehall Junction with Midtown Manhattan; this extended subway line paralleled old abandoned railroad bed through eastern Queens extending into Long Island Sound beyond Prospect Heights before terminating at Grand Central Terminal via right-of-way purchasedby Metropolitan Life Insurance Company In recent years many businesses have opened up like Fromentz Barbecue Catering LLC which specializes exclusivelyin NY area grilling services orRestaurant Garden which offerscuisine such as Italian etc... latter providestable service primarily for events or private functions.. real estate has seen growth especially since last yearwhen former resident Joe Lusardi renovated several homes into market leading condominium units.. East Rockaway, a small town located in the southeastern corner of New York City, is one of the most important and historically significant communities in the borough. For over 150 years, East Rockaway has been an important cultural and commercial center for the eastern section of Queens. In addition to its role as a major cultural and commercial hub, East Rockaway also played a significant role in early American history. The community was first settled by Dutch settlers in 1624. The area now known as East Rockaway was included within what was then called Westchester County. The first European to settle in what is now EastRockaway was Johannes de Witt, who arrived in 1627. He named his new land after his friend, Nicholas Van Orden, who had founded Orange County on Long Island. De Witt's settlement didn't last long; within two years he had sold his land to English colonists under the terms of the Treaty of Westminster which ended the Dutch-American War (1664-66). English colonists soon began arriving to what is now East Rockaway. In 1695, John Smith discovered coal near present-day Jericho Road and decided to settle there. By 1712, Smith had developed a small town around his coal mine called Smithstown which became known as "the Hope of America." However, by 1715 Smith's mine had exhausted its resources and he abandoned it due to competition from other mines nearby. In 1718 Samuel Johnson acquired some adjoining land that would later become part of East Rockaway Township; this acquisition added another 14 square miles (28 km²)toEastRockaway's original township limits
East Rockaway was first settled in the early 17th century. The area now known as East Rockaway was part of the Manor of Hempstead, which was granted to Sir Walter Ralegh in 1635. The first land grant for East Rockaway was made to Nicholas Doyles in 1653. In 1775, the area became part of Tryon County. The first school in this area was built on what is now Pinehurst Road in 1789. In 1819, the village of East Rockaway was established and annexation by New York City took place that year. From 1848 until 1861, it served as a district within Queens County. On July 1, 1868, its status changed from borough to city and it became one of the five original boroughs of New York City. In 1898, following Census data indicating that there were more than 100 Jewish families living in East Rockaway Village, Mayor John Fenton ordered a survey to determine if any new housing had been constructed there since 1896 and if so whereupon applications should be filed with the City Planning Department for approval to build new housing units therein. No approvals were given because there were no plans for such development at that time but residents continue to live there today under various names including Park Slope and Fresh Meadows
