East Rockaway is a town in the Borough of Queens in New York City. It is located on the eastern tip of Long Island, bordered by Queens to the north, The Bronx to the east, and Brooklyn to the south. As of 2010, its population was 23,591. The name "East Rockaway" comes from two different sources: one originates from Sir John Ayrton's 1624 map which depicted a bay called East Rycote; and another source comes from Dutch explorer Hendrick Hudson's 1609 exploration of Eastern Long Island which named it "Rockefellerbrook". During World War II, East Rockaway was an important naval air station used for training pilots for Bomber Command. After the war it became a commercial center with industries including shipbuilding and garment production. In recent years, East Rockaway has experienced significant redevelopment as part of Mayor Bloomberg's effort to revitalize neighborhoods across New York City. In particular, areas such as Fishkill Valley andrim have seen rapid growth since Bloomberg took office in 2009.

East Rockaway is a hamlet located in the town of East Harlem on the eastern side of Long Island. It was once part of what was known as Westchester County and became an independent municipality in 1903. The land that makes up today's east rockaway was first settled by Dutch farmers in the early 1600s, and during the Revolutionary War, General Washington Pointed Fort Nassau at present-day East Rockaway to prevent British troops from entering New York State. In 1847, the area became part of the newly formed Town of Rockaway Beach, which until then had been a separate section of Manhattan. In 1903, when New York City annexed all of Westchester County (including East Rockaway), it reincorporated EastRockaway into its new jurisdiction. The population of EastRockaways increased rapidly after World War II because many workers moved to Brooklyn to take jobs in factories and other businesses that were opened up thanks to government stimulus programs such as Operation Hudson. The residents also enjoyed access to public transportation which made life more convenient for them and their families. However, with suburban development encroaching on traditional rural values, some people began to feel isolated and abandoned within their own communities. This led to tension between local officials and developers over who should have control over what went on within their boundaries - an issue that has continued to this day. Despite these challenges,EastRockaways community is still vibrant with many active members participating in local organizations such as Rotary Club International and American Legion Post #527. There are also several small businesses located throughout the hamlet that continue to contribute greatly to its economy despite occasional setbacks or fluctuations in business activity overall due mainlyto global events or economic conditions outside of their control like Hurricane Sandy which devastated parts of Long Island last year).
The first European settlers in East Rockaway were the Dutch in 1624. The next year, English colonists arrived and began to build their own homes. In 1686, the French came to East Rockaway and began to mine coal from the area. By 1815, the town was incorporated as part of Brooklyn. In 1898, a fire destroyed most of the town and it was rebuilt with stone buildings. The town continued to grow until it had a population of over 100,000 by 1940.
