He soon became one of the most influential figures in the coffee industry and helped to change how people perceived caffeine. Fenton is also responsible for popularizing green tea as a morning drink. Today, Dobbs Ferry remains an important center for coffee production and consumption. The town continues to produce iconic brands such as Blue Bottle Coffee and Saint Nicholas Coffee Company, which are sold throughout North America. The community takes its name from Ebenezer Dobbs, an early settler who owned land around present-day Dobbs Ferry Village and built a cabin there in 1792 AD; his daughter married John Gouverneur Wright, one of America's first settlers born outside New England or Rhode Island

In 1795–96, Englishman John Evelyn tasted some first-hand Ethiopian coffees at an embassy party in Paris and was so impressed that he introduced roast techniques to England. This led to the earliest recorded use of a French press – which consisted of a bag filled with ground beans put into a pot on fire) – in 1797 at Mr Fenton's Tea Room in London. In 18th century Britain it was customary for masters roasters such as Thomas Gravesend to present their best examples at trade shows where merchants could buy them directly from producers instead of being sent through middlemen like Mr Fenton. During this era there were several major changes to how coffee was roasted: firstly whole bean roasting became popular during this period; secondly automatic pressing machines became available; finally third-party sellers started selling pre-roasted beans online or through mail order beginning in the 1970s
