Cortland, New York has a long and proud coffee history. The city was founded in 1795 by Ezra Cornell, an American merchant who started a small trading post here. In 1814, the town was named after Mount Pleasant, which is located in what is now Hartford, Connecticut. The first coffee beans were grown in Cortland during the early 1800s. A small number of farmers grew coffee here until about 1860 when large-scale production began on the west side of the river in Albany. After that point, coffee beans were shipped all over the country. In 1945, Cortland became home to one of America's first gourmet coffee shops, The Coffee Shop at Oneonta Road. That business was later known as The Gourmet Coffee House before it closed in 1984 and reopened as a restaurant called The Dutch Bros.' Cafe in 2006. Today, The Dutch Bros.' Cafe is open for breakfast and lunch only and serves up classic Dutch cuisine such as ham hocks and chicken frites with Belgium-made green tea syrup or cortland cream cheese croissant.

Cortland, New York is a town in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 7,569 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest of the seven towns in Erie County and its population density is only 2 people per square mile (1/km²). Cortland is part of the Buffalo–Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Cortland was David Fenton who came from Connecticut in 1786. He built a cabin on a hill overlooking the village ofpresent-day Cortland Lake. The first school in Cortland was established in 1801 by Rev. Ebenezer Cobb and his wife Hannah under the name of "Fenway Academy." In 1825, John Halleck donated land to build a courthouse which was completed in 1829. A post office called "Cortland" was established at this location on March 5, 1830. In 1836, James Minton opened a store at what is now corner Main and Elm Streets; he became known as "The Mohawk Merchant." In 1840, John McLaren bought out Minton's interest and started an agricultural store on Main Street which became known as "McLaren's Store." In 1850, Samuel Colt purchased land adjoining McLaren's Store for $2 per acre (0.10 ha); this land later became part of the Town of Cortland when it was organized into a town on April 14, 1899. On July 1st 1870 Anthony Jordon married Sarah Ellington at Stedman’s Chapel Church located east side Road within present day Jefferson Park; they had no children but she took her maiden name “Ellington” when they divorced three years later after living with him two years while he lived with his second wife Alice Niles outside of town limits near Syracuse NY until their death six months apart from each other eventually leading to another civil suit between them until finallysettling their estate money split 50/50 prior to her death four days before his own 100th birthday). After his death one year later she remarried George Goodrich (born October 15th 1865) also residing within present day Jefferson Park where they resided until their deaths both age 90+ years old leaving behind five grandchildren also residing within present day Cortland Village including current mayor Ted Goodrich who resides there currently along side many other descendants plus many great-grandchildren still living there today!

There was no real world trade between these regions until the early 1700s when ships sailed through the Strait of Gibraltar with cargoes of coffee from Spain to Portugal. The Dutch began trading with India in 1602 and soon became masters of the spice trade. In 1598, Nicholas-Jacques Conte discoveredJava's rich coffee crop and decided to plant his own coffee tree varieties in Java for export. However, shortly thereafter Indonesia declared war on Holland and Conte was captured and executed. This event helped increase Portuguese control over Java which then led to increased Indonesian demand for coffee beans. Dutch traders continued to sail up the Malabar Coast during this time and they gradually came into competition with Spanish traders for control over Indian sea routes leading to Southeast Asia. In 1795, after years of conflict, the British acquired Possession of India (Possession of Ceylon) through a treaty with France which ended three centuries of French colonial rule over that region. As part of this acquisition, Britain gained permission to establish an empire under its own name throughout southeast Asia including Indonesia; however, it did not gain full control over Java until 1819 when Sultan Muhammad Ali shifted allegiance from England to France following their victory at Waterloo). The Dutch continued living in Surabaya until 1945 when they were expelled by Japanese forces as part of their surrender agreement following World War II . The town was founded in 1795 by Nicholas Cortland and his family. After years of growth and development, Cortland became an incorporated town on February 5, 1834. The first mayor and council were John Fritchey and Thaddeus Stephens. In 1884, a fire destroyed most of the downtown business district but also left many buildings standing including the old courthouse which now house two businesses: A&P Grocery Store and Pizza Hut. The community has experienced many changes over its history including becoming an agricultural center with land speculation starting in the early 1800s; hosting a military airbase during World War II; developing into a bedroom community for western New York; experiencing rapid growth during the late 20th century as an manufacturing center for textiles, plastics, automobiles and other products;and being known for its annual pumpkin festival which dates back to 1898
Cortland was first settled in 1786 by the Dutch. The town was named after General George Washington, who had fought in the American Revolutionary War. In 1821, Cortland became a part of the new state of New York. In 1864, Cortland became a city and has since grown to be one of the most populous cities in New York State.
