Corning, New York is a borough in the Bronx of New York City. Corning was formed on April 14, 1881 from the merger of two other boroughs, Lower Manhattan and The Bronx. The population of Corning was 3,521 at the 2010 census. The first settlers in what is now Corning were Dutch farmers who arrived around 1624. By 1795, there were about 125 families living in the area that became known as "The Green Mountains". In 1814, General George Washington and his army camped near present-day State Street and Broadway in what is now called Gorhamville when they invaded Long Island. General Forbes surveyed this area which would later become part of Corning. Eventually, many colonists from Ireland immigrated to The Bronx as well and by 1870 there were 1,000 Irish people living in the borough. In 1882, Lower Manhattan was annexed to New York City while The Bronx remained separate but close to its eastern border with Brooklyn. In 1881, all three boroughs merged into one structure under the name of "Corning." During World War I (1914-18), much effort went into developing munitions plants within the city limits of New York City for use by both Allied forces and German troops fighting on Earth Day 1914 (April 22) – military targets throughout Central Park including artillery batteries located along Fifth Avenue between 43rd and 47th Streets had been pounded so heavily with “friendly” shells that entire streets became impassable due to their destructive power! A 95-foot high concrete “fire wall” had also been built around these installationsprotecting workers below ground from German fire! American soldiers serving overseas during World War II could earn battle honors or Victory Medals for rendering aid to friendly forces aboveground which earned them street addresses like Ninth Avenue NW or Sixth Avenue SE inside today's bordersline between Brooklyn Heights/Downtown Manhattan & Upper West Side/South side of Manhattan! After Pearl Harbor attack on December 7 1941 US troops stationed aboard USS Missouri (BB 487) off Staten Island heard rumors Japanese submarines were lurking nearby so they sailed closer than ever before!!! They found!! 4 Japanese submarines spotted just outside Battery Parkadee Strait!! Troops boarded ship using Livestock Carriers against Enemy Ships operating off shore….. Enormous losses resulted including almost 1 Lt Col USNR killed !! Many more Americans lost their lives that day…. those waters adjacentBattery Parkadee Strait remain closed off today because of unexploded ordnance left behind by our past wars!!!!!Today nearly every building insideNYC has at least one WWII era bomb remnant!!! There are also several large pieces of jettisoned airship wreckage lying offshore!!!!!!!!!!!! We must never forget how we got here!!!!!!!!!!!!

Corning, New York is a city in New York state and the county seat of Onondaga County. The population was 23,824 at the 2010 census. The city is located on the southern shore of Lake Ontario and has a total area of 382 square miles (1,052 square kilometers). The first settlers in what is now Corning were farmers who set up their homes along the shores of Lake Ontario. By 1813, they had developed a small town which they named after themselves, Corning. In 1834, the Town Board decided to change its name to Syracuse because that was the name of one of their early mayors. However, this decision was overturned by a vote from the town's citizens and it reverted back to its original name in 1835. In 1847, Syracuse became an incorporated village with a population of 1086 people. It was renamed again to Corning in 1881 after local manufacturer John W. Corning donated land for this purpose. It wasn't until 1907 thatCorning began developing into what it is today as an industrial center for aluminum products exported around the world. Steel production also began here during World War II when parts were needed for military vehicles and planes. After the war ended, many factories closed down but new ones popped up such as Alcoa Aluminum Company and Ford Motor Company among others- givingCorNING its current nickname "the Factory City".Today most manufacturing takes place within companies larger than itself such as General Electric or Kodak which are headquartered within walking distance from each other on Main Street in downtown Corning
