The army was first deployed in Canandaigua, New York on October 17, 1776. The troops were initially sent to protect the town from Native Americans. After a few months, the troops were recalled and replaced by Loyalists. The army was not called back again until 1779 when the Revolution began. In that year, General George Washington ordered an all-out assault against the frontier fort of Saratoga. To make up for his previous mistakes, Washington ordered General John Burgoyne to lead a force into Canandaigua to capture it before its defenders could surrender. The siege lasted three months and ended with Burgoyne’s surrender on February 25, 1781. This event is generally considered as one of the greatest military defeats in American history. In 1805, Canandaigua became the capital of New York State after Albany was moved to the new state Capitol building across Wall Street from City Hall. At this time, there were no military facilities located within city limits and soldiers had to be deployed outside of town for purposes such as guarding important infrastructure or conducting garrison duty during times of peace or war. As New York grew increasingly populous and industrialized over the next few decades, however, artillery batteries and other defense mechanisms became necessary inside city limits in order to support general population growth while maintaining law and order in neighborhoods which may have been seen as hostile by military personnel stationed nearby at their barracks or outposts.(1) Although there has never been an actual deployment of an entire regiment/army within Canandaigua limits since 1800 (the last time such a thing occurred being in 1885), there are numerous references throughout history documenting Army deployments here specifically dating back prior thereto(2). For example: On October 10th of that year (1776), Captain David Williamson Darby wrote “A detachment under my command went into town yesterday evening with intent to purchase any articles needed for our immediate use”(3). Two weeks later (October 16th), Major James Robertson observed “An detachment arrived this morning about 8 o’clock A.M., consisting principally of Hessians [a unit used by Germany][4] under Major Cunningham…The company will soon be reinforced by others”(5). On November 3rd (1777), Major Alexander Macomb reported that “One hundred men belonging to Captains Middleton & Williamson went into town yesterday night withDesigner Gaskill[6] on board one boat laden with goods for us….We took possessionof several houses near where they landed [Canandaigua] Yesterday morning; also some storehouses belongingto them…. We found several pieces thereof burned down″(7). In addition there are reports of troop deployments dating back even earlier than 1776! One account claims that Colonel John Montgomery led a detachment from Westchester County militia against Indians atiskinac Falls on September 15th (8). Another account claims that Colonel Montgomery dispatched two squads under Lieutenant-Colonel Jameson along Withrow Creek towards Mohawk Valley on October 12th in orderTo suppress Indian hostilities)(9). During these pre-Revolutionary years various units including infantry companies marching band regiments light cavalry companies independent rifle companies battery teams wagons requisitionedfor transportation either through local farms etc or taken directly from surrounding settlements where necessary without delay were commonplace occurrences both within and outside of what would become known as downtown Canandaigaia Shopping Center area today

As village forms cannot be used to calculate populations due to design requirements set forth with respect to villages forming an entire townsite - such as having both public housing authorities ("homes" or "units") managed collectively - only those residents who lived within any one particular village form can be counted herein. Canandaigua was once a thriving town in upstate New York. It is now an unincorporated community located in the town of Orchard Park, Niagara County. In 1922, after years of debate, the state Legislature decided that Canandaigua should be annexed into newly created Onondaga County. However, this annexation failed to gain popular support and soon fell victim to demographic changes within Onondaga County which made it more difficult for small towns like Canandaiguatto maintain their influence within county government. As a result of these changes, Canandaigua slowly lost its status as a center of activity throughout the 20th century and gradually declined into obscurity until it reemerged as an unincorporated community in Orchard Park last year
