The history of the army in Babylon, New York goes back to the early 1800s. The first units of the New York militia were raised in 1792 and served under General George Washington during the Revolutionary War. In 1812, a regiment from Babylon was mustered into service as part of the 1st Infantry Brigade under Major General John Brown. In 1815, an infantry brigade was raised from Babylonians and men from other areas of New York City to serve in Colonel James Fenton's 2nd Infantry Regiment organized at Fordham University. On November 26th, 1818, a regiment of artillery Companies A & B (3rd Artillery) was organized at Fordham University and put into camp on Pine Street near Canal Street. Company C (4th Artillery) arrived later that year also at Fordham University and took up quarters on State Street between Nassau Avenue and Church Place.
On May 14th, 1826, an infantry brigade was organized at Fordham University with detachments from companies A & B (3rd Artillery), Company D (5th Artillery), Company E (6th Artillery) and Company G (7th Artillery) under Brigadier General David Hunter. The brigade marched to Kingston for training on July 12th but instead joined Major General John Brown's force engaged in the Battle of Monmouth Court House on July 15th which resulted in one Egyptian soldier being killed and four American soldiers being wounded before withdrawing without taking any prisoners or destroying any property. On October 10-11, 1826, another brigade consisting of detachments from Companies A & B (3rd Artillery), company D (5thArtillery), company E(6thArt artillery), company G(7thArtillery) was organized at Fordham University with Brigadier General David Hunter commanding it; this brigade also participated in the battle of Monmouth Court House on October 11-12 where two Americans were killed while five others were injured including brigadier general hunter himself who lost his right leg after falling off his horse while fleeing the battlefield.
In 1830, a corps divisional battalion was raised at Fordham University with detachments from Companies A & B (3rd Artillary). This battalion served as part of Peter Schuyler's Division during three campaigns against Mexico: Alvarado’s Expedition against Vera Cruz on September 3-8 1840; Beresford’s Campaign against Veracruz starting December 20 1850; and Chapultepec April 24 1861 resulting in one Mexican soldier being killed and six Americans wounded before withdrawing without taking any prisoners or destroying any property except some guns captured by Chapultepec forces after their victory over Mexican Army troops commanded by Jose Joaquin Pico de la Peña y Pavón inside San Fernando Palace Grounds today known as Park Row Historic District located within walking distance to both Stuyvesant High School located just south west across Long Island City limits only east side is now home to Ronald Reagan Presidential Library operated by Donald Trump
