Albany, New York is a small city in the state of New York, situated on the Mohawk River. The population was 23,653 at the 2010 census. On July 14, 1775 John Adams arrived at Albany from Boston with news that Continental forces under Washington had routed General Howe's army at Germantown Heights near Philadelphia; thus Forbes' prophecy that "the place [Albany] should become the central point between Great Britain and America" came true two years earlier than expected. By 1800, when polytechnicCollege opened there were more than 5200 students enrolled in over 100 programs including law school which moved there from Utica College in 1802; construction on college began on December 2nd same year with classes starting on January 8th following completion of $250Kowment for Building & Grounds although only $10K went out because no one wanted it! When consolidationofNewYorkState occurredin 1898/99 college moved again making it Capitol Hill Campus now home also to State University Of New York Empire College which merged with SUNY Polytechnic Institute back then making Polytechnic Rockefeller School!
