After World War I, Sunland Park ceased to be an army depot and became more of a storage center for munitions. It wasn't until 1949 that Sunland Park again became an army post because of its new role in artillery training. In 1951, Sunland Park also became home to the US Army's First Infantry Division Museum which tells the story of how this division changed over time from being a light infantry brigade into one of America's most powerful armoured units during World War II. In addition to its military significance, Sunland Park also played a big role in New Mexico's history. When it opened up in 1907, Sunland Park was one of the most important locations in New Mexico because it served as both a military base and civilian airport for many years. It also acted as a shipping point for goods arriving from all over Mexico City during revolutionary times and later became home to many businesses such as Adobe Company (now Adobe Systems) and Albuquerque Brewing Company (now Anheuser-Busch).
