After World War II ended, silvermining resumed and new installations were established such as White Sands Missile Range on October 15th 1959 and El Paso Air Force Base on December 1st 1958 which remain active today with multiple functions including air defense research; air training; prisoner transport; humanitarian aid missions; law enforcement activities Most recently however, Fort Bliss has seen significant renovation project which include construction of large gymnasiums for various purposes such as exercise and recruiting purposes; addition of an Armor lobby complete with replica cannons which can be fired upon guests during events; expansion/ refurbishment/maintenance/replacement work on all major corridors leading into/out of Fort Bliss . In total it has resulted in a $100 million investment over 10 years making Ft Bliss oneof Americas largest Military Facilities .
