Military gift history in Rio Rancho, New Mexico dates back to the early 1800s when a small detachment of United States Army soldiers stationed in this community enjoyed the company of their Officers and NCOs. This unit was known as Company C and it played an important role in many local skirmishes and battles during the Mexican-American War. During that conflict, Company C produced some of the most decorated US soldiers of that era including Major General Mariano Valverde (1821-1892) who served as commander of Brigade XXIV Field Force, Second Division. Lieutenant Colonel Lorenzo de la Hoya y Costilla (1799-1870) also fought in the war and became one of America’s most accomplished generals. Shortly after the end of hostilities, Company C disbanded but its legacy lives on through various military organizations based here such as The National Guard Armory & Museum which is open to the general public every day from 9am to 5pm; The Battery Group - which is home to two cannons dating back to 1847; and The American Legion Post #5 which has been active since 1907. In addition, several businesses located within walking distance of either Battalion Barracks or Armory have also had a connection with military service or history – such as The Rio Rancho Drug store which served as Headquarters for First battalion during World War I; Red Rock Saloon which operated during both world wars adjacent to Battalion Barracks; and Pavilion Theater located adjacent to Armory where units from Company A participated in Operation Overlord on July 6th 1944.

The Rio Rancho military post was established in 1847 and operated until 1912. The barracks were used to house the troops during the Mexican-American War, as well as World War I. After the war, the post was closed and used for storage. It reopened in 1951 as a branch of the United States Air Force Academy. The post has been used for other purposes since then, including being a base for civilian research into environmental science.
Rio Rancho is a small town in New Mexico that was founded in 1828. It is located on the Rio Grande River, about 25 miles northeast of Albuquerque and 100 miles southeast of Santa Fe. The town has a population of around 2,000 people. Rio Rancho was named for José Joaquín de la Rocha, a Spanish explorer who explored the area in 1827-1828. La Rocha's party was met with hostility by the local Ojibwa people, who thought he was come to steal their land. La Rocha instead exploratory traveled throughout what is now New Mexico and Arizona before returning to Spain in early 1830. At his death in 1832, la Rocha had made several discoveries including what are now Rio Rancho and Albuquerque. The first white settlers arrived at Rio Rancho in 1828. They were Price brothers from Massachusetts and John Marshall from Virginia. The Price brothers established a ranch on the east side of the river near present day Old Military Road (NM 87). John Marshall set up shop on the west side across from today's Cathedral School off FM 924 (now US 82). In 1830, following Mexican independence from Spain, Texas claimed this region as part of its boundary with Mexico Governor Alvarado decided to create two towns within Texas: one called San Antonio del Norte (on Presidio Hill) would be ruled by Mexicans while another called Austin would have English rule Santiago Pérez organized 5 families into an effort to start trading posts along the river Pérez believed that trade should lead to friendship not war so he lobbied for English rule rather than Mexican control The group petitioned Governor Agustín Cuellar but they only received 1/5th of the Votes needed for approval Anglo traders soon began arriving at Rio Rancho and started trading goods with both Texan ranchers and Native American tribes

Rio Rancho is a small town in New Mexico, located on the Rio Grande. It was founded by Spanish colonists in 1795, and became a Mexican territory in 1821. The town was destroyed by the Navajo Indian War of 1886-1887 and its residents were forced to leave. In 1912, Rio Rancho was reestablished as an American Community by president Woodrow Wilson. The community has since developed into a major cultural center for the region. The first European settlers to arrive in what is now New Mexico arrived in 1795 with the Intent of finding new land to farm. They named their new land Rio Rancho after one of their main leaders, José Antonio de la Peña y Costilla. The area that would become Rio Rancho was mostly covered with sagebrush and low hills until later years when some trees were logged and dirt roads were built leading to the settlements. In 1821, following Mexican independence from Spain, New Mexico Territory was organized into five counties: Bernalillo, Bisbee, Coconino, Dona Ana (now Arizona), and Santa Fe County which included present-day Rio Rancho County. This organization changed little until 1840 when governor Manuel García de Larrain decided that Santa Fe County should be divided between Dona Ana and Cochise Counties instead of being combined into one county because of population growth rates within both entities; this change caused great resentment among most inhabitants of these two counties who saw themselves as being treated unfairly by Larrain’s decision making process. On July 1st 1846 José María Morelos y Orellana became interim President ofMexico after Juan Bautista Alvarado resigned due to illness; Morelos traveled throughout Mexico City seeking support for his presidential ambitions but failed to secure more than 50% support from congressmen before vacating office on September 25th1846). On October 10th1846 Morelos received electoral votes from Texas (then part of the United States) via mail; however he could not win an election because he did not have majority support from any state inside or outsideof Mexico City proper A new president must be elected by Congress under Article II para 3b ofthe Constitution as follows: “The President shall hold forth full faith and credit until his successor is nominated or appointed by law….He may be removed only for cause shown probable cause having arisen out of his performance as President…A temporary government shall be established during my absence without compensation to those who are loyal unto me” On November 2nd1846 Moreno took office under provisional rules set up during Alvarado’s presidency; this period marks the beginning of Mexican rule overNew Mexico Territory which would last until 1848 when Pancho Villa successfully expelled most Mexicans living in Nuevo Mexicano Territory taking all property with them including many properties belonging to ranchers such as José Maria Morelos y Orellana whose ranch lay within Nuevo Mexicano boundaries at that time . From then on there continued intermittent civil unrest between Indians (Aztec Empire) & Texans (Upper Colorado Country) primarily along river valleys where cattle rustling frequently occurred causing much economic deracination among ranchers & farmers alike . As Anglo Americans began settling areas eastward around Albuquerque they encountered Apache Indianswhose raids against travelers led Ulysses S Grant TO order General John Custer's Seventh Cavalryto fight at Palo Alto on August 16th1867 near Fort Sumner coining the term "Great Apache War" ..... By 1870 about 60%of rio rojo residents lived within 100 miles of Gallup while less than 10% resided within 24 miles Of Tucson
