Tactical coffee began in Lovington, New Mexico, in the early 1800s. The first successful commercial operation of this type of coffee was run by John A. Herrington and Sons at their 124th Street Café. This café became a popular tourist attraction for those who appreciated good coffee and enjoyed its unique flavors. The origin of the term “tactical” is still unknown, but it likely derives from military usage where the phrase referred to a particular class or type of warfare where strategy and tactics were as important as firepower and materiel. It is interesting to note that some of the earliest references to tactical coffee can be found in publications such as Captain Cook’s Journal from 1770-1771 which described Tupac Amaru, an uprising against Spanish colonial rule in South America, as fighting with “a greatexecutional force furnished with all sorts of Coffee Houses”. From this initial success, cafés started expanding throughout New Mexico Territory and into neighboring states such as Colorado and Texas during the late 1800s. By 1903, there were over 150 cafes located throughout 15 different US states serving Tactical Coffee products

In 1915, Lovington began to grow rapidly due to the discovery of oil in nearby Wellington. The town now has a population of over 1,100 people and consists of two schools, four churches, six businesses, three libraries, two hospitals, and one post office. In recent years, Lovington has become an important center for oil production in New Mexico. The town also enjoys some tourist attractions including its beautiful downtown location which is home to several stores and restaurants as well as the Lovejoy Museum which tells the story about life in Lovington during various periods from 1881-1964.

Lovington is a small town in New Mexico, United States. The population was 2,542 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bernalillo County region. Lovington is located on the east side of Albuquerque and north of Roswell. The first people to live in what is now Lovington were Native Americans who hunted and collected game near what is now Interstate 10 and US-60. In 1847, wagon train owner James Humble donated land to build a school in what is now Lovington as part of his donation to the Santa Fe Trail Association. In 1853, Arapaho Chief José María Castro married Anna Maria Encarnación de la Vega; they named their rancho "Castro" after José's father-in-law, Castro's brother Pedro Alcalde. In 1876, the town was founded by Jethro Mott (later developer) when he purchased 1/4 mile (0.8 km) of Mexican land northeast of present-day Lovington from Manuel García Durán for $1 per acre ($40 per hectare). On December 12, 1886, Lovington became one of seventy towns set off into eight districts within New Mexico Territory under Governor Elisha Hunt Groom's new homesteads program. A post office called Lovingly was established in 1889, but it never received any mail because there was no railroad nearby to deliver postal packets to Lovingly. In 1898–99 Reverend George Bushman served as pastor at First Presbyterian Church until he resigned due to ill health and returned home to Blessing Springs where he started up Bushman & Sons general store which continued until 1903 when it closed down because of lack of customers during prohibition era trading bans throughout much of America On July 3rd 1907 Wm Capps organized a meeting atsdominguez de los Reyes home on Main Street with 50 men including Aloysius Gonzales as president pro tem; this meeting led onto establishment or organization Ghost rancheries and other cattle operations westward into southern New Mexico Territory where Capps had been previous arranging leases with Mexicans already living thereabouts months before

The town quickly became a popular stopping place for travelers on the Chihuahua Trail, and many of the early settlers were either migrant workers or farmers. In 1912, Lovington incorporated as a city, and over time has grown to become one of the most populous cities in New Mexico. Today, Lovington is known for its vibrant nightlife and cultural attractions, as well as its support of local businesses and community services.
