Since the early days of the United States Navy, sailors have been sending gift baskets to their friends and family back home. This tradition has continued through every era of the navy and into today’s world-congratulations on your distinguished naval service! The first documented shipment of military goods from California to New Mexico was in 1846 in a small boat called Thetis. From then until 1912, Naval Forces Clovis sent a monthly gift basket to sailors and marines stationed at Naval Base Las Vegas. The basket included items such as cigarettes, candy, and coffee. In 1942, the Navy established its own gift shop at Naval Base Clovis which became known as “The Gift Shop”. In this store, Sailors could purchase various gifts for their friends and family members. Gifts that were chosen by the Commandant of Naval Base Clovis were placed inside an attractive gift box with a note announcing the recipient’s special occasion. After World War II ended, many servicemen returned home from combat duty and needed new things to keep them occupied while they awaited their return home. As a result, many navy personnel turned to selling donated goods from their stores at Mobil Station #4 in downtown Clovis for military soldiers and civilians who lived near by. After more than fifty years of operating The Gift Shop at Naval Base Clovis, it closed its doors on July 1st of this year due to dwindling sales over time despite being open Monday-Friday 9am-5pm depending on weather conditions (closed during National Defense Force events). However, portions of the store remain open for visitors during regular business hours (Monday-Saturday 10am-5pm) which allows you come out and explore some amazing vintage navy memorabilia!

These programs provide unique networking opportunities for both Sailors and Acquisition Officers (AOs). The Clovis Naval Air Station was first activated on Dec. 10, 1942 as a naval air station in Clovis, New Mexico. The United States Navy established the naval air station to provide aerial support for land operations during World War II. From its activation until it closed in 1969, the Naval Air Station operated two aircraft carriers and numerous other ships and planes. In 1943, the air station became a base of operation for combat groups of fighter pilots known as "Fighters from Hell." During World War II, the Naval Air Station played an important role in providing fighter protection for allied forces operating in Europe and Asia. In 1945, when Japan surrendered, the Naval Air Station came under American control and continued to operate until it closed on Sept. 30, 1949. Since its closure, the Naval Air Station has been used as a training ground for various types of military personnel including Marines and Coast Guard crews; It also remains home to several active duty Marine aviation squadrons (1-5 Marine Aircraft Group) which are responsible for flying Nimitz class Destroyers and San Antonio class Littoral Combat Ships off NM coast
Clovis, New Mexico is a small town in the middle of nowhere. It's known for its Native American artifacts and Mesoamerican culture, but it's also home to some of the most interesting residents in the area. Clovis was founded by Mormons in 1871, and they've been slowly moving away from their faith ever since. But even though they're no longer fanatical about it, their influence on the community remains strong. In fact, many of Clovis' residents are descended from Mormon missionaries who went to Mexico and Central America during the early 1800s.
The Navy has deployed Gift History for over 60 years. This tradition started with Rear Admiral John A. Lambertson, who was the Commanding Officer of Destroyer Squadron 10 and initiated the gift giving in 1973. The first gift given in this way was a set of cufflinks to be given as a token of appreciation to his sailors aboard USS Enterprise (CVN 65) while on deployment in the Mediterranean Sea. From then on, every ship that served under Commodore Lamberton received a gift from the Naval Service. These gifts range from collectible items such as cigar boxes or naval coins to practical items like radios or tools. Today, there are several different ways to give Gifts to Sailors serving in our military deployments around the world. One popular way is through Ship-to-Shipribute which allows Sailors and their families to send a loved one's favorite item (or items) directly from their ship into another sailor's unit during deployment. Additionally, there are unique Give-Aways that allow Sailors and their families to celebrate special occasions such as birthdays, marriages, orsignificant events within their navy community with something unique and memorable from home. In addition to giving Gifts directly to servicemen and women stationed abroad, the Naval Service also sponsors numerous international Gift Giving Events throughout the year that allow servicemen and women from all corners of the globe an opportunity learn about Navy culture and customs while enjoying some amazing presents!

Clovis, New Mexico is a small town in Bernalillo County, New Mexico, United States. The population was 1,512 at the 2000 census. It is the smallest community in Bernalillo County and second-smallest in New Mexico. The town was founded by John Clovis in 1848 as a trading post on the Santa Fe Trail between Albuquerque and Santa Fe. It grew rapidly during the gold rush of 1849–1850 and by 1860 had a population of 2,500. In 1881 Clovis incorporated as an independent city and became known as the "Gateway to the West." During World War II Clovis participated in the war effort with its military wing, Air Force Base No. 10 (later renamed Edwards AFB). The town also played a role in historical events such as September 11th 1944 when Japanese units bombed USAAF airfields near Clovis; these airstrikes are considered to be one of America's earliest military successes against Japan. Today, Clovis is home to a mix of locals and visitors who come for its mining history or its views from atop Pico Hill overlooking Albuquerque's downtown skyline; both have their own charms but may not be easily separable from one another on any given day.
