The Clovis National Guard was organized on February 17, 1912. The Clovis Chapter of the American Legion donated the nucleus for this organization and Lieutenant Colonel Alfred W. Park became its first commander. The present-day Clovis National Guard was constituted on November 5, 1912. On July 1, 1916, a new armory and barracks were dedicated at the corner of Main and Spanish Streets in downtown Clovis. This facility served as the national guard's headquarters until 1942 when it was relocated to New Mexico State University's Henderson Hall. In 1952, Headquarters moved again when both buildings were destroyed in a fire; however, local citizens were able to raise money to rebuild both structures within six months using proceeds from selling military supplies that had been stored at the old armory site. TheClovis National Guard has always been an active force in our community with many deployments over the years including World War II (1940-1945), various state peacekeeping missions (e.g., 1995 Navajo campaign), numerous parades throughout our town and county during holiday season, and even some support roles during natural disasters like Hurricane Ike in 2008 or 2010.

In 1821, Captain Doniphan led a group of Anglo-American settlers from Santa Fe overland to this location when they realized that there was no route down from themountain community of Albuquerque. The first post office in Clovis was established in 1824. As this small town grew, it began to establish itself as a center for commerce and culture. After World War II, many Midwest farmers moved into the area and startedoring mills and other businesses. The population of Clovis increased rapidly during this time and by 1970, it had reached its current size. The growth of the local economy has allowed for some renovation projects throughout the years such as new buildings for school and government offices, a new library, and a new football stadium which opened in 2009. Despite these challenges, Clovis continues to thrive as an agricultural center with crops such as corn, beans, cotton, potatoes, cheese (a process called ridding), eggs, butterfat (from cream cattle), honeydews (a type of beeswax), tobacco products (including cigars), onions/shallots/garlic bulbs etc., among others being produced locally

In the year 1025 BC, Clovis was a small and isolated community located in what is now New Mexico. The area that is now Clovis was then part of the Mescalero culture, which had its origins in central Mexico. It was during this time that the first evidence of human occupation in this area was discovered. Clovis likely emerged as a small village due to its strategic location on a high plateau, allowing it to see both east and west as well as being able to trade with other nearby cultures. The village probably functioned as an agricultural center, producing maize, beans, and squash. Additionally, there may have been some hunting and gathering activities conducted here. It was around 1100 BC when Clovis first encountered Europeans. Spanish traderslikely arrived here from present-day Zacatecas during this time period in search of new land to exploit. Over time, these traders established themselves at Clovis and began trading goods such as sheep, pigs, firearms, and obsidian for goods from Central America and Europe. In 1118 BC–1119 BC European explorers discovered Petralona (present-day Albuquerque), which served as the headwaters of the Rio Grande River. As a result of this discovery, more settlers began flowing into New Mexico from Querétaro Province in southernMexicoand El Paso County in central Texasto establish permanent settlements within what is today New Mexico
