Air Force Deployed gift history in Carlsbad, New Mexico began with the United States Air Force’s initial deployment of combat aircraft to the area during World War II. The Aircraft Storage and Use Wing (ASUW) was established at RAF Lakenheath, England in February 1942 as a facility for storing and using AmericanAAF fighter aircraft. The wing was eventually redesignated as the United States Air Forces Central Europe (USAFCENTE) on 15 November 1944. Inactivated on 15 May 1945, the wing’s functions were transferred to Headquarters Element, Fifth Air Force (HQFFENT), which also controlled USAF European headquarters at RAF Ludwigshafen, Germany. HQFFENT activated on 1 October 1947 when Headquarters Fifth Air Force assumed control of Headquarters Allied Expeditionaryforces Europe (HEE). From its activation until its Inactivation in May 1945, HQFFENT participated in numerous deployments throughout Europe including operations over Normandy and Western Europe; support of Operation Overlord; airlift operations during the Berlin Airlift; and contingency operations such as those involved inOperation bring order to China. Inactivation relieved HQEFENCE of responsibility for flying missions over Germany; however, all mission files continued to be processed by HQEFENCE until 14 September 1945 when all mission files were discontinued due to budget restrictions. For many years after I assignment it seemed that nothing ever happened at AFB CARLSBAD other than we would fly planes and storage them there then come back down again within a few months or so

Carlsbad is a small town in New Mexico, located just outside of Albuquerque. The population was estimated at 7,500 in 2000 and has since decreased to 5,853. It is the smallest city in New Mexico and the second-smallest municipality in the United States after West Valley City, Utah. The name of the town comes from Spanish explorer Pánfilo de Narváez, who named it for his home village of Carlsbad on the Arroyo Seco River. The first permanent settlers were French Canadians who founded a trading post near what is now Carlsbad in 1825. By 1830, there were some 80 people living hereabouts. In 1834, General James Kenedy units under Cheyenne Chief Black Hawk invaded New Mexico and destroyed most of the Santa Fe Trail linking California with Texas; as a result, most pioneers moved out of New Mexico and into Arizona Territory. A few years later another group established themselves at what is now Carlsbad but lost their land contention to an adjacent ranchería following a military engagement known as Adobe Walls. In 1847-48 about sixty men from Gallup arrived here with gold prospectors looking for new areas to explore in this area which had been discovered by José Joaquín Balboa during his 1799 voyage along the Pacific coast from San Francisco Bay to Acapulco Harbor. In 1850–51 an adobe wall was built around present day Carlsbad by local farmers to enclose their land against squatters and thieves who had taken advantage of those seeking fortune without putting up any Folsom or other fence or security measure whatever they may have done sans respect à la loi et aux coutumes de leurs pays d’origine). The railroad reached this area on October 16th 1863 when passenger train #1 (the first northward rail trip) stopped at Mineral Wells Depot east of today’s town limits; two days later train #2 (the last northward rail trip) pulled into Albuquerque Station where passengers disembarked for onward travel across country through Socorro Passes etc., continuing as far south as Durango before turning back northeast over Tejas Pass; one engine tender also joined the train en route making it possible for passengers not carrying money or valuables to disembark without fear that they would be robbed while traveling away from home or business interests on their way back acrosscountry once reaching their final destination—this became known as “The Ghost Train” phenomenon because no mail ever arrived alive nor did any letters sent eastward beyond Albuquerque until 1865 when steam navigation brought them via El Paso finally enabling Americans living west of Albuquerque by airmail all access to our great Nation's capital even though we were still subject to Great Britain's London government! Today only 6 buildings remain standing: 3 churches (all burned down during World War II), 1 hotel/motel (demolished 1953), 1 post office building (currently used as a grain elevator), 2 private residences including one currently owned by Esther Cardenas (and formerly occupied by her husband Adolphus Cardenas), and 1 grocery store/cafeteria/ restaurant complex adjacent to both Municipal Park & East Side High School which closed its doors circa 1984 due primarilyto lack of customers although there are numerous unused lot(s) nearby consisting mostly OFFSET TO SCHOOL ZONES & partially bordering Onidio Creek which offers excellent fishing opportunities!

Throughout its history, the USAF has undergone multiple expansions and renovations that have made it one of America's most versatile militaries. One ofthe earliest deployments of USAAF assets was on 8 August 1946 when Republic F-94D Skytrain aircraft were sent to RAF Hornchurch for use by British Forces during Operation Overlord which led up to World War II; this was also Ulysses S Grant's final flight as commander of United States Armed Forces in Europe (USAFE). The first operational flights from Republic F-94Ds took place on 12 October 1946 at RAF Wyton using three machines from squadron No 3 FAAG– “Majestic” flown by Captured Lieutenant Norman Laddington – and fellow Squadron Leader Harry Snelling (No 5 AFCG) flying an RF-4A.[1] At this time, no major upgrades had been made to either type since original production commenced in 1945 so these aircraft were primarily used for ferrying personnel and equipment between bases across England[2]. In 1949 additional squadrons were added: No 2 Flying Training Unit (later No 11 Flying Training Squadron), Flight Test Section (later renamed Flight Test Wing) equipped with Beechcraft TBM Avenger bombers, whilst No 10 Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron flew Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighters designated “Prelude” which provided photo reconnaissance over war zones including Japan during hostilities started there on 7 September 1941,[3] later becoming part Of Pacific Command[4][5]. Aircraft types operated included Boeing B-29 Superfortress Bomber(s), Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighter/bomber (FVF 38), North American AT-6 Texan amphibian trainer/attack plane(FVN 36), Douglas DC-9 Airliner(s) – all delivered into service between 1948 and 1957 inclusive with various unit armament configurations including rockets & cannons etc., examples being: McDonnell Douglas DC3 Airlines Cargo Plane; Fairchild Republic F8C Demonstration Fighter; Convair CV-118 Constellation airliner
