In Artesia, New Mexico, there is a history of shooters. The first shooters in this area were the Earps. In 1881, John A. Earp and his brothers hired Tom Horn to shoot targets for them at a ranch near Pecos. This started the Earpshooting Tradition that still exists today in Artesia. From here on out, the shootings would take place at various ranches and camps until finally being moved to where they are now- at the old Earps Ranch off Apache Trail in Artesia. There have been many different types of rifles used throughout these years, but one thing has always been consistent- the use of shotguns as firearms. Today there are several shotguns museums located within town limits of Artesia specifically dedicated to this tradition and culture.
It is through these museums that we can learn more about what has happened during these years with shooters in Artesia- from when they began using shotguns to how they continue to enjoy this activity today. One such museum is called "The Shotgun Museum" which was opened in 1984 by Donnie Gentry.

In 1886, Donnie Gentry founded The Shotgun Museum in Artesia, New Mexicodedicated to preserving and exhibiting firearm related artifacts and memorabilia from across America.

The Artesia Rifle and Pistol Club has been shooting for over 100 years. There are many different types of firearms that have been used in the club, but the most common type is the rifle. The club also owns a few shotguns, but they are not as popular as rifles.
In the late 1800s, Artesia was a small town in New Mexico. It had a few stores and a small population. But it was known for its art galleries and its talented artists. Many of these artists were associated with the School of American Realism. The school was started by Winslow Homer in 1881. In recent years, Artesia has become an important center for Mexican-American art. Some of the most famous painters from Artesia include Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, and Julio Cortez.

Since January of 2014, I have been a part of the Shooter's Guild. It is an online guild that allows shooters to communicate and collaborate on projects.
Artesia is a small town in northwestern New Mexico, United States. The population was 921 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Santa Fe, New Mexico Micropolitan Statistical Area.
The first European to visit Artesia was José de Arteaga y Arellano on July 10, 1795. He arrived with his brother-in-law Manuel Antonio Carpio and other Spaniards looking for land to purchase in what is now southern New Mexico. They were met by local chief Atahualpa who refused to sell them any land and instead offered them hospitality until they could find more promising prospects.
In 1824, Spanish explorer Pedro de Valdivia discovered the present day town of Artesia while exploring routes down the Rio Grande west of Santa Fe. He named it after his sister-in-law, Isabel Pérez de Valdivia y Ayala, daughter of Andrés Pérez de la Cueva and María del Carmen Díaz de Ayala. The area around Artesia became known as Rancho Arenal because it had been given to Francisco Vásquez de Arizmendi by Almuerzo Yrigoyen in 1797 as part of a treaty between Spain and France following a border skirmish near that location. The area later passed into Mexican hands when Alvarado granted Rancho Arenal to Bernardo Mata in 1821 under an agreement which allowed him to keep some cattle but allowed him exclusive possession of all other property east of Alamogordo River including what is now downtown Artesia."

By 1828 most residents had adopted "Artesi" as their official name due to its pronunciation similar to that used by Albuquerque businessman José Miguel Carranza during that time period within city limits.
When Mexican President Porfirio Diaz ordered military forces led by General Antonio Lopez Estrada towards Texcoco on September 16, 1911 duringivahe launched an unarmed attack against American civilian targets southbound on Iberian Highway 10 near modern day Ciudad Juárez approximately 65 miles northwest from El Paso County Texas; subsequent U S Army investigations closed most charges related thereto without ever providing definitive resolution However several ATS agents infiltrated the unit leading up to event remain unaccounted for thereafter resulting in public speculation that they may have turned traitorously against their own government upon learning about organized crime activities taking place inside Mexican borders thereby enabling increased crossborder trafficking emanating from El Paso County
Artesia is a town in Nuevo León County, New Mexico, United States. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Albuquerque Metropolitan Statistical Area.
The first European to visit Artesia was Francisco Pecos in 1524. He named the place "Athlete" after his horse he had seen there while on his way westward.
In 1864, during the American Civil War, Gen. John J. Pershing and his army fought their way through New Mexico Territory toward Santa Fe and Objective Valley. As they were passing through Artesia, Pershing ordered his command to stop and take possession of all property within sight including homes and churches built without permits or compensation from the families of those who lived there before him. Most of these structures still stand today as well as a cemetery which was added to the town in 1922.
The artesian well known as the "Pecos Well" began producing water for irrigation in 1876 and continued doing so until 1984 when it became a public utility company with its own pumps that service all of downtown Albuquerque proper; however, until recently there has been no pump service available to people living outside of downtown Albuquerque proper due to an agreement between management/ownership by PECOS Water Company & City of Albuquerque (CAA)
In 1862 Ulysses S Grant's Expedition passed through this area on their march southward from Santa Fe across New Mexico Territory towards Tucson Arizona - one day north of Artesia - and encountered many difficulties along their route includingHardware store situated oncurrent siteof present day Plexico Blvd., now home to Apache Corporation development
Aftermath: In 1865 Post Office opened at current location under name “Taos”; also store moved Thereafter
It is said that General Grant's forces stopped near here for lunch on November 8th 1865 while en route back east across New Mexico Territory via Ariz./New Mexico State Line into Arizona
