The Albuquerque National Guard has been a part of the United States since 1795. The guard first came to New Mexico as a militia unit in 1847. In 1912, the Guard was organized into an infantry battalion and then a regiment in 1924. In 1950, the Guard became an armored division and also adopted its present name, the Albuquerque National Guard. On December 12th, 1960, the Guardsmen from New Mexico's 1st Infantry Brigade moved to Fort Bliss near Austin Texas for Operation Goldwater which led to the end of World War II in Europe. In 1971-1972, The 1st Infantry Brigade Commander Colonel Artemio Rodriguez deployed his brigade to Central America where they fought against leftist rebels duringOperation Condor which aimed to stop Marxist revolution in South America. He also served as Commanding Officer of 2nd Battalion 9th Marines from 1984-1986 while stationed at Camp Pendleton California before returning home permanently to command 2nd Battalion 9th Marines at Fort Worth Texas from 1987-1989 until he retired on October 30th 1992 when he was succeeded by Major General Ralph Beattie who later commanded 3rd Brigade Combat Team 4th Infantry Division headquartered at Fort Hood Texas The current commander of the Albuquerque National Guard is Brigadier General Jeffrey A Wickersham who assumed command on November 15th 2017 after brigadier general david Schultz resigned effective November 14th 2017 due to personal reasons

The Albuquerque National Guard was created on November 16, 1912 as the Army's first African American regiment. The guard operated out of Fort Logan until 1941 when it moved to Civic Center Plaza. The Guard is currently headquartered at the Castle Towers in downtown Albuquerque.

And although today most residents are white (and many Spanish surnames still prevail), there are also sizeable populations of Native Americans, Asians, and Hispanic immigrants who make up the majority of the population today as well. The history of Albuquerque can be traced back centuries before it became an American center. The area now known as Albuquerque was first occupied by Native Americans who built villages along the Colorado River itself. It wasn’t until after European exploration arrived in New Mexico that Spaniards began exploring this region in search for new land to settle. In 1821, Spanish explorador José de Alvarado discovered what would become Albuquerque when he journeyed down river on his way northward from Santa Fe – he named the site San Miguel de Allende after Saint Michael, leader of Christianity's crusade against idolatry in Central America (the original name for New Mexico). What followed were years of intense construction activity as Alvarado attempted to build a trading post between Santa Fe and California – ultimately leading to his death at age 50 while attempting this crossing over into Texas on July 6th 1825. The site where Alvarado's remains now stands remained undeveloped until around 1840 when prospectors discovered oil fields potentialy located at Socorro Lake near present day Bernalillo County; however due mainly to changing political circumstances accompanying Mexican independence from Spain (1824-1828) no development occurred until after Californian gold discoveries had led entrepreneurs such as Francisco Vásquez Márquez founded missions throughout central New Mexico in 1848.; In 1850 main street east of downtown served as town square; soon thereafter blocks departed southward forming Avenida Revolución which still contains some vestiges remaining today including Elías Romero's adobe church dedicated September 25th 1870 which is currently under restoration by Pueblo Aztecas Preservation Society

The city's deep-water port made it one of America's leading shipping points for goods exported to Asia through the centuries and its commerce helped lay the foundation for Albuquerque's metropolitan area that includes some of the most prosperous cities in North America today. Today, many downtown businesses remain open along with cultural attractions like The University Of New Mexico at Las Cruces and The Alameda Theatre Company which has been performing classic films since 1928
