Some Alamogordo coffee drinkers remember when the city's first grocery store, The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, opened in 1905. In that year, Alamogordo residents subscribed to an early day Bulletin newspaper that included a list of local businesses. Among these was The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, which offered morning and afternoon coffee drinks as well as pastries. The business grew over time and by 1912 had become one of the largest coffee stores in New Mexico. That year, it merged with another local grocer, The Dutch Bros., creating what is now known as The Dutch Bros./Alamogordo Coffee & Donuts store. In 1924, the store moved to its current location on West Seventh Street in Alamogordo after purchasing a lot from Mr. Ransom Hargrave (founder of the Alamogordo Methodist Episcopal Church). Since then, The Dutch Bros./Alamogordo Coffee & Donuts has been home to some of New Mexico's most popular brands including Peet's Coffee Company (founded 1954), Dutch Bros.' Own Blend (1957), Msi Donuts (1981), Dunkin'Donuts Mexican FOOD (1996), and Starbucks Reserve Roastery/Donut Shop(2005).
Alamogordo is a small town in New Mexico, United States. It is located on the Rio Grande near the Mexican state of Chihuahua. The population was 5,871 at the 2000 census. Alamogordo has been called "the bread and butter of Albuquerque," and its economy depends heavily on agriculture, manufacturing, tourism, and transportation. The first white settlers in Alamogordo were French colonists who arrived in 1785. The town was named for General José de Alamo, who fought against Spanish forces during the Mexican-American War. The construction of the Santa Fe Railroad through Alamogordo began in 1881 andended there in 1912. In 1906, gold was discovered in Alamogordo and this led to an increase in population and businesses here; by 1920 Alamogordo had more than 12 industries. The post office at Alamogordo opened on November 6, 1886; it continued operation until it was discontinued on December 15th of that year due to lack of mail volume. On April 1st 1907 a local railway company known as the Albuquerque Railway Company (NRA) became operational with tracks running from downtown Albuquerque all the way to Alamogordo via what is now I-25 eastbound and US 287 westbound between those two points; NRA added passenger service soon after starting operations which continues today Amtrak's "Pomasuck" train service between Albuquerque/Albuquerque International Airport (NAVY) outside of town along I-25 eastbound then south onto I-10 westbound before terminating back at downtown Albuquerque). In 1915 a hydroelectric power station was built just north of town; however this project never came to completion because World War II intervened with production being shifted to other areas including Dallas TX where electricity would be produced until well after Hiroshima bombing when Japan finally abandoned nuclear weapons development which eventually caused their own war with Korea leaving many JapaneseAmericans living there exposed to radiation levels above federal health minimum standards even though they disclaimed any military connection to Japan or atomic weapons production). In January 1959 a tornado touched down within minutes of forming just northwest of town center destroying most homes within sight but not touching any people or property itself; since that time tornado activity aroundtown has generally been very low both EF0 & EF3 tornadoes having occurred only once(in October 2011), interestingly enough concurrent with major flooding events occurring across much of central NM creating large puddles &mudslides throughout some portions resulting also in high water levels inside communities impacted). Almoholgo Creek flows through town forming part thereof as does nearby Monterrey MX making for frequent lightning strikes especially during thunderstorms making for one heckuva place for Coleman weather radar work! Finally railroad excursion services once offered here ended about 30 years ago but several churches still offer week long religious retreats each summer& fall herealbeit without locomotive access!). Today Almoholdgo boasts 4 elementary schools (grades PreK-8), 2 middle schools (grades 9-12), 3 high school grades 10+ (grades 11+, 12+) & our newest high school facilities whichopened Spring 2018 - Newman Catholic High School! With such an active community we have launched numerous programs like Our Lady's Academy Holyoke Elementary School which provides Head Start through grade 8inderry while providing opportunities for special needs students thru age 19th education & Our Lady's Parish Immaculate Conception Parish Schoolkids' Chapel offers prekindergarten thru 8th grade education while also hosting parish functions like weddings etc... not forgetting our amazing Cultural District - home to over 20 restaurants/cafes/bars/restaurants plus 22 public art galleriesserving over 150 different types OF food!), 2 professional sports teams: FC New Mexico Lobo Soccer Club (.9% chance winning national championship vs Texas Christian University)and Aztec College Bombers football program (.75% chance winning state title)! Lastly we have an ongoing campaign against breast cancer support group called Angel Tree Cancer Support Group AFLOCHIBAHUZTEPEZDLA . so pretty much anything goes hereabouts folks!
