Woodland Park is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 31,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark-Jersey City metropolitan area. The name "Woodland Park" comes from a grant by President James K. Polk in 1887 to John W. Lawler and other settlers in what is now Woodland Park Township. In 1898, the township became an independent municipality and changed its name to Woodland Park Township again. The original township was located on the east side of New Jersey between Bound Brook and Lindenwald townships; it bordered Newark to the south and Easton to the north. The first post office in this town was established on July 8, 1892, operated by George Fenton under then-township auspices. On October 9th of that year, Drury & Elder Bros., druggists came into business here for the first time as druggists' stores (a trade which had been carried on by them since 1795). A post office called "Newark" remained in operation until 1917 when it merged with Morristown borough as part of a larger municipal consolidation plan approved by state lawmakers on March 3rd of that year pursuant to Preamble § 7(a) of Act 106 of 1914 (the Municipal Consolidation Plan). In 1920, all but one signer of an anonymous petition submitted to local officials opposing annexation into nearby Morrisania voted against incorporation into neighboring Newark without giving their reasons – another reason given for not wanting annexed was fears that new taxes would be levied upon residents there rather than within their own community which they felt would be more equitable based upon its size and history. In 1926 Borough President Harry Jaffe ordered all signs inside municipal boundaries disappeared except those dating back to 1922 or older because he believed they were unofficial ballots cast during early voting process leading up to election day that month; most notably those at Summit Avenue intersection near where later named Streetsboro Shopping Center now stands were still present after years passed without any formal change or Update thereto! Woodland Park is a town in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 362 and it was formed from part of Trenton in 1868. The name comes from the wooded hills that surround it. The first settler in what is now Woodland Park was John Ryder, who arrived there in 1784. He named his tract of land "Greenbelt."
The Woodland Park area in New Jersey was originally part of the township of Morris. The township was formed on November 16, 1821 from part of the then Middlesex County. On February 24, 1867, the land within the present-day Woodland Park Township was transferred to Morris Township. On October 15, 1886, a fire destroyed most of what is now Downtown Morrisville and portions of South Parsippany and West Morris Township. The damage cost $2,500 ($ as of 2018) to repair or replace property lost in the fire. On April 11, 1890, a separate borough was created from portions of bothMorris and Woodland Park Townships by an act of the New Jersey Legislature known as Act No. 607. The borough was named for President James K. Polk who had died two years earlier in office at age 40 years old.
