Woodbury is a small town located in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,887 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. The town was founded by English colonists in 1764 and named for Colonel John Woodbury who served as a volunteer soldier in the American Revolution. The first settlers were farmers and their families who erected log cabins on adjacent upland land. In 1857, the steamboat White Star Line built its wharf here and commerce grew rapidly thanks to boat traffic from Reading Terminal Market. By 1930, however, woodworking and other manufacturing had replaced boat traffic as the town's leading economic activity; today it remains a bedroom community for northeastern Pennsylvania with some retail stores scattered throughout its roughly square mile heartland. The township was established on March 14, 1834, when it was detached from Middlesex Township. On July 1, 1854, it became a separate borough under Jersey City jurisdiction following an act of the New Jersey Legislature which granted voting rights to boroughs within county lines that did not have them prior to that date. In 1916-17 Woodbury constructed three miles of concrete road fromown center(now Route 8) out to neighboring Cohan Heights where they had been using sandbags filled with water to fill ditches dug by predecessors of theirs in order to keep their fields watered during winter months; this feat has been generally considered one of the most innovative public works projects ever undertaken by local residents (the road still remains in good condition). From 1917 until 1951 both sexes were required by law to wearaday dress at all times while inside any public building or on private property; this rule gradually evolved over time into more relaxed standards applicable only outside buildings during certain hours or when special occasions warranted such as funerals or state visits (it has since reverted back to requirements inside most public buildings). On May 20th 1924 - almost seventy years after incorporation - Mrs Lillian Reston dedicated her home at 209 Main Street #2 ('Reston's') as 'New Beginnings Hall' which functions currently as a meeting place for various organizations including: Woodbury Historical Society; Board of Trustees; Borough Council; Fire Department Auxiliary Committee Meeting Room & exhibits room therein'; also used annually for summer concerts held hereunder by various choirs/orchestras conducted outdoors under appropriate pavilions erected thereupon BY THE COMMUNITY HOUSING AUTHORITY FOR THE PROTECTION OF PUBLIC HEALTH AND NOTIFICATION OF EMERGENCIES

Woodbury is a borough in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 Census, the borough had a population of 362 and an area of 18.2 square miles (51.6 km²). The name Woodbury was first given to the town by directory editors who felt that it could not be correctly spelled "Woolwich" because the first letter of each word was different. The township originally included present-day Woodbury, parts of Ridgefield Township and part of Perth Amboy Township. In 1881, Ridgefield Township was consolidated with Middlesex County and Woolwich became part of new Middlesex County Borough. The original boundaries for Woolwich were 7th Street on the north side of Route 9 east from Route 10 to Clinton Avenue on the south side; 6th Street on the east side from Clinton Avenue to Old Bridge Road; 5th Street on the west side from Old Bridge Road to Market Street; 4th Street on its southern border between Market and Broad Streets; 3rd Street at its eastern border between Broad and Washington Streets; 2nd Avenue on its northern border between Washington and Franklin Streets; 1st Avenue on its western border between Franklin and Summit streets
The town of Woodbury was founded in 1795 by the Dutch. It was named for Pieter de Witt, a landowner in the area. The first settler in what is now Woodbury was Cornelius Vanderbilt, who arrived in 1798. In 1824, the town became part of Union County and was incorporated as a village in 1839. In 1870, Woodbury became an independent township and remained so until 1959 when it merged with Burlington Township to form Woodbury-Burlington Township.
