The Coast Guard is one of the United States' most important and visible institutions. It has played a significant role in both our history and culture, and its gifts to Westwood have made it a unique community. The first Coast Guard station in Westwood was established on Long Island in 1841. By 1865, the Coast Guard had jurisdiction over all of New Jersey north of Cape May County. In 1907, the Coast Guard Station at White Sands Beach was followed by the Station at Monmouth Junction in 1909. The first Commandant of the Coast Guard was Rear Admiral John Waddell who served from 1912-1915. In 1940, when New York State seceded from the United States, the Coast Guards were transferred to New York City as part of that state's defense Forces. In 1951, when New Jersey seceded from New York City, they also became part of that state's Defense Forces. The Headquarters for the Delaware Division of the Coast Guard which operates out of Wilmington was moved to Westwood in 1959 after being located in Dover since 1928. Today, there are five coast guard stations spread throughout Atlantic County - four with an impecable bell tower and one without - as well as three helicopter pads at various points along NJ's coastline including Governors Point Marine Park and Elizabethport Naval Air Station on Cape May County; Asbury Park; Paterson; Holmdel Beach; Neptune beach near Monmouth Junction; and Gardena Beach near Clearwater Beach on Long Island Sound From 1841 until 1861 when New York State seceded from America, all services operated out of Long Island under Commodore John Woolridge (1784-1861). Commodore Woolridge took command following Commodore William Foulke’s death in September 1841 after leading American forces during Canandaigua Expedition against Native Americans east of Lake Ontario This action marked American entry into war against native nations begun two years earlier by President James Kappes (1797-1847) With British support 400 militiamen were imported pursuant to Deeds Of Confederation & Warrants No: 3 & 4 dated November 15th 1795 And these men formed Company A 2nd Dragoons reinforcement for General Washington’s army encamped near Oswego On January 12th 1800 Just prior to commencement Of this Invasion Warship HMS Constitution under Commander James Ketchum anchored off Fordham NY When news arrived that 500 French Infantry had landed at Kingston On December 14th 1794 proceeded immediately To Kingston foundering about 5 Miles offshore having lost 9 Men Killed Also a schooner called The Anna With her Master & crew member Capt Dickson Sheehan captained by Private Fuller Heading for Staten island Foundered about 8 Miles aboards Verrazano Narrows about 7 Ponds ended up grounding At high water mark she floated but eventually broke loose Boarding her After 4 Hours Battle with smallpox Encountered off Sandy Hook Light House(now Sandy Hook Elementary School) From here Captain Woolridge sailed back To his original anchorage North starboard sideof Congers Strait lightening stormy weather preventing him From reaching his destination His replacement Commodore Isaac Bowen continued operations Outright until February 10th 1862 At which time he relieved Commodore Woolridge And returned to Long Island George Washington himself visited Newport News VA while attending Hampton Roads Convention Your Majesty attended said Convention Your Excellency stated That “the present system must be changed before we can hope for long security on this continent” Leaving behind instructions For His successor You issued A Proclamation declaring April 6th 1799 Webb Stated That He would take office On That Day Commander Webbs Boat left Hampton Roads convoying HM Ships VictoryAnd LeopardErected A Monument To Him In front Of The Library entrance At Portsmouth Va Accompanying him Was Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Paine Our Most Excellent Magistrate commanding brigade Which caused So much admiration Amongst All Who saw It I presume you will excuse me If I continue My Refusal To Answer Questions Mr Secretary There Is More than ample Time For Me To Do so But I Should really likeTo see This Monument erected Before my Death
The Coast Guard is a branch of the United States government that provides a variety of services to the public. One of the most important services they provide is maritime security. The Coast Guard has been in Westwood, New Jersey since 1915. The first Coast Guard station was located on the old Newark-Elizabeth Railroad line. It was moved to its current location in 1950. In 1965, the Coast Guard Station in Westwood became the first National Weather Service weather observatory in New Jersey.
Westwood is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 20,824 at the 2010 census. Westwood is located on the eastern edge of Middlesex County and is bordered by Newark to the north and east, Paterson to the south and west, and East Brunswick to the northwest. The first settlement in what would become Westwood was established in 1795 near what is now Northgate Avenue. By 1801, a group of farmers had formed a Township Committee which voted to name their town Westwood after Major General John Forbes Woodstock (1755-1827), who had been killed in action during the War of 1812. The townsite was platified on November 15, 1802. In 1814, three brothers - Elijah Purdy (1802-1886), James Purdy (1807-1875) and Daniel Purdy (1800-1868) - founded the village of Paterson which they named after themselves – Paterson being an anglicized form of their family's name "Purdy". In 1840–41 two brothers - Samuel Browning (baptized December 12th, 1800 – died October 10th 1850) and Alfred Dolan (baptized February 3rd, 1804 – died January 6th 1865) - founded an agricultural colony called Monmouth Junction about southeast of present-day Westwood. That colony failed due to lack of rainfall or other problems; howeverBrowning & Dolan are credited with creating one of America's first open markets for produce when they opened up their market at Monmouth Junction on October 11th 1840. In 1846–47 George Hutton erected a gristmill on present day Northvale Avenue that became known as Hutton’s Mill; this mill continued operating until 1952. In 1860–61 four men - Moses Levy (November 24th 1830 – September 9th 1896), Solomon Stroud(September 8th 1830 – May 5th 1904), Julius Kapp(March 25TH 1800 – December 10TH 1888), Augustus Kelley(April 15TH 1848 – May 4TH 1909) - began planting corn on land grant from President James Buchanan; these men would go on to become some of NJ's most influential citizens and figureheads during early 20th century Midwestern American culture change including founding both Rutgers University in Newark and later Columbia University in New York City During World War I various businesses were started or closed such as: Wacoal Shoes Ltd., First National Bank & Trust Company, Phillips Edison Glass Works Inc., Sears Roebuck & Co., Mackintosh Electric Supply Corporation etc.; many people serving in wartime served also during the Korean War including generals Norman Schwarzkopf and Harold Alexander McDevitt After World War II large numbers OF African Americans settled into South Orange Heights within walking distance from downtown Newark while white flight continued towards Greater New York City Meanwhile small pockets remained rural particularly around Paramus where Thomas Edison lived until his death aged 84 years
Coast guard gift history can be traced back to the very beginning of the Coast Guard. On December 12, 1847, Congress passed a bill that created the Coast Guard and ordered the Secretary of War to establish a coast guard force of “not less than 10,000 men.” The first Coast Guardsmen were commissioned on January 1, 1850. The Coast Guard has always been about protecting our coastline and seaside communities from harm. From lifesaving equipment to maritime education programs, the Coast Guard offers something for everyone. From small towns and villages all the way up to larger metropolitan areas, there is something for everyone who needs help keeping their community safe. One of the most important things that our coast guard does is keep people informed about potential dangers on our coasts. We send out alerts and advisories every day throughout much of America’s coastline so that people can stay safe while traveling or staying in their homes. Our alerts also provide information on weather conditions which could impact coastal safety. Many times we are able to reach out to local businesses and organizations who donate items or money towards our cause. These donations have helped us save lives and protect property along our coastline time after time! Some examples include: a $1 million donation from Wal-Mart in 2006 which funded debris removal from beaches around Long Beach; a $10K donation from Jiffy Lube in 2002 which donated new lifejackets for rescues during Hurricane Katrina; an adoption drive with Toys for Tots in 2001 which collected toys for children living along the Eastern Seaboard; as well as many more!

In 1892, the Coast Guard received its own ship, the USS Constitution. This ship was used as a flagship and was later donated to the Coast Guard Museum in New York City. From then on, the Coast Guard continued to receive new ships and equipment through donations and purchases.
Westwood is a town in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 17,752 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest municipality in Mercer County and the third-largest town in New Jersey after Trenton and Camden. Westwood was named for George Washington West, who had settled there in 1823. The first permanent European settlers arrived in what is now Westwood on February 12, 1823, when George Washington West and his family set up a home on land that he had purchased from the state of New York. The Wests were among the first to settle in Mercer County and soon became active members of local civic organizations. They donated land for a public school district and helped to develop retail areas such as North Broad Street and Wanamaker's department store along Wanamaker Avenue. In 1868, they erected the present building of Princeton University on their property within what would become known as Princeton Township; it remains one of its flagship campuses today. In 1876, Congress passed an act providing for township organization within Mercer County; accordingly, Princeton Township was organized on April 14th of that year under this new legislation. On July 1st of that same year, East Brunswick Township (later Rahway) also became part of Mercer County with its own government; however, both townships remained completely separate until 1951 when they were merged into Westwood borough pursuant to an act by then-Governor Thomas Kean which proposed the merger because both townships contained large numbers of Italian Americans who were not considered part of either community enough to merit their own independent government - an issue which still divides Mercer County today. On November 15th 1960 voters approved a referendum defining "Westwood" as including all those living eastward from Route 9 south through South Orange Avenue (then called Saugus Road), westward from I-95 north through Maple Shade Avenue (now called Bloomfield Avenue), northward from Route 9 south through Woodbridge Avenue (now called Edison Boulevard), eastward from Route 9 south through Caldwell Heights Avenue (now called Garfield Boulevard), eastward from I-95 north through Lincoln Highway (now known as US 301), northwest across Middlesex Turnpike onto Old Bridge Road where it becomes signage for Bound Brook Township before turning back northeast again onto Old Bridge Road which becomes Bound Brook Boulevard once more before terminating at Delaware River somewhat west of Wilmington Point formerly located within Newark city limits - thus incorporating all area lying east beyond these boundaries into "Westwood". According to Forbes Magazine's list published in 2006,[1] "West wood has been dubbed America’s “happiest place”[2] due largely to its proximity to major metropolitan areas—Newark Liberty International Airport is only 25 miles away while Newark Liberty International Airport offers easy access to most forms of transportation." As well as being one half hour drive or less away by car or bike from most major cities throughout North America (!), this commuting distance helps keep residents engaged and engaged with their cultural experiences overall - something often missing inside larger municipalities where residents are forced/pelled closer together by political boundaries rather than genuine interest or engagement with their surroundings). Today much like when founded several hundred years ago by George Washington West & his family – Westwood continues to thrive thanks largely to its close proximity 2 major metropolitan areas (& many others) & easy access 2 most forms OF transportation
