The United States Armed Forces have a long and proud history of deploying gifts to support our troops. From beautiful flags to practical tools, the military has always been an important part of American culture. The Department of Defense (DoD) sells Soldier and Marine Corps leftover gear, uniforms, and accessories on eBay. In 1978, the USAF gifted a large collection of surplus equipment to Westwood High School in Westwood, New Jersey as part of their annual donations program. Since then, Westwood has continued to receive donated items from both the Air Force and DoD. This year’s donation was made in memory of Sgt. First Class Darrell Juell who was killed in Afghanistan on November 3rd, 2014. This past year alone, DoD donated over 350 items totaling $10,000 to Westwood High School’s Veterans’ Memorial Museum which will now be able to display these amazing pieces of equipment that are often left behind by our troops when they leave for deployments overseas. In addition to providing an incredible service to our local community through this donation program, it also provides insight into how USAF culture affects civilians living near military bases around the world!

Westwood is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 21,943 at the 2010 census. Westwood is part of the Newark–Trenton metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Westwood were Dutch traders and missionaries in 1624. They named it "Wetstooth" because of the marshy ground on which they found evidence of deer and other animals. In 1714, James Logan purchased two grants from the Lenape Indians for 1,500 acres (0.48 km2). He built a house there that still stands today as one of the town's most significant landmarks. Logan's home became known as Logan House Museum. In 1819, John Stevens founded an agricultural society in Westwood with five members to improve Bethel Township's soils and grow grains and fruits thereabouts. Stevens also erected a chapel in 1825 in honor of his patron saint, St George. In 1832, James Waddell donated land east of Essex Avenue to form what would become the village of Westwood boundaries; he had been impressed by what he saw as improvements made to Easton Village by its incorporation into Newark more than ten years earlier. On July 1, 1835, Westwood incorporated as a municipality under the name "Westbrook". During World War II many residents left their homes for fear bombing raids would hit their towns near New York City or Philadelphia; however no bombs fell on Westwood during that time period. However some residents did leave during The Great Recession when their jobs went away or were cut back greatly due to economic conditions throughout much of America during those timespan- this includes approximately 20% of the total population living in township at any given time according to unofficial counts conducted between 2006 and 2011 In 2016 Mahlon Floyd was elected Mayor after defeating incumbent Republican candidate Josephine Ferraro 54%-45%. A year later she resigned effective June 30th due to health reasons

In 1764, the area that is now Westwood was first surveyed as part of New Jersey. The town was founded by James Westwood and his family in 1765. In 1838, the town passed to New Jersey after it was annexed by Philadelphia. Westwood's distinctive architecture and history can be seen throughout the township today. Westwood experienced a rapid growth during the late 19th century due to its location on major transportation routes and its role as a manufacturing center for goods coming from eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware. However, during World War II, the town came under siege from Japanese forces who used it as an airbase in what is still one of its most notorious episodes in American history. Despite this experience, however, many businesses have continued to thrive in Westwood over the years. Currently, nearly all of the buildings within the boundaries of Westwood were built between 1840 and 1950 - making it one of America's oldest continuously inhabited townships.
Westwood was originally a small hamlet on the west side of Westwood Village in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The area now includes much of the southeastern section of Westwood Village and all but a tiny piece of western section. In 1806, John Dennison purchased 640 acres (2 km²) of what is now Westwood from Nicholas Wolcott for $10 per acre. The community was founded as "Newbury" by Nathaniel Young in 1792. It became "Westwood" in 1806 whenJohn Dennison acquired 640 acres (2 km²) from Nicholas Wolcott for $10 per acre. In 1825, it gained city status when it annexed parts of East Orange Township. In 1845, after battle between American and British forces at Princeton where General James Monroe was wounded, the village voted to annex neighboring East Orange Township to form a town called Monmouth Junction. The name change did not last long as soon enough there were other towns with similar names in Monmouth County and the township reverted back to its original name in 1850.
