In 1855, Captain John Cockerill established an armory in Westfield which served as a proving ground for American arms manufacturers. This armory helped to develop methods of manufacturing weapons that were later used during World War II. In 1857, General Winthrop Scott appointed Commodore James Stockton as commander of the East India Squadron which served as America's main naval force on the Indian Ocean Sea. As captain of this squadron, Commodore Stockton played a critical role in America's victory over England at the Battle of Ramkhamna (1857). This victory marked America's first major naval victory against an enemy power and it demonstrated America's growing maritime power. During this time period, Commodore Stockton also created the first destroyer squadron in American Naval History and helped to establish beachhead positions along India's coastline during World War I

Westfield, New Jersey is a town in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 22,658 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia-Camden-Wilmington metropolitan area. Westfield is one of the oldest towns in Mercer County and was founded in 1785 by Revolutionary War veterans George Washington and his brother James Westfeldt. It became an incorporated municipality on April 15, 1846. The township was first settled by English settlers in 1785 as "Westford". In 1795, it split from Eastford Township to form its own municipality; this merger also created what would become Mercer County. On May 8, 1846, Westfield became a borough due to the efforts of then-Mayor John Prentice and Town Councilman Amos Kendall III. Borough status was granted to the town on November 3 that same year following ratification by voters at a meeting held at the Old North Bridge. The new town had a population of 10 people and was authorized to make its own ordinances and regulations with respect to business affairs without having to comply with those of Eastford Township. On July 14, 1951 – during Operation Neptune's Spear – Hurricane Forster made landfall just west of Westfield causing extensive damage along portions of New Jersey coastline including much damage done within Mercer County specifically within Westfield borders where communities like Weehawken (then called Scotch Plains) were destroyed or severely damaged including Allentown which lost all but one block of its urban fabric with over 100 businesses - many abandoned - lying strewn across Talbot Street gridlock near mile marker 597 after winds up to 130 mph knocked out power for blocks miles offshore along NJ Turnpike/I-95 corridor; total estimated $100 million in damages statewide In 1961 when Mayor Levi Aspinwall resigned amid corruption allegations that he took bribes from developers seeking approval for new shopping mall projects located just east of his hometown Brooklawn off Route 23; resulting in increased criticism for his leadership style within township government subsequent investigations found no wrongdoing however subpoenas were served against several potential witnesses subpoenaed including Aspinwall himself ultimately leading to convictions against some individuals implicated herein state Supreme Court ruled that bribery laws do not apply extraterritorially when municipalities are “local public bodies” under section 3(a) thereof ruling thereby negating any meritless prosecutions asymptomatic under existing law

Westfield is a borough in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 Census, it had a population of 21,898. It was incorporated on February 26, 1875. The name "Westfield" is derived from the old English word "west" (of which there are two) and "feld," meaning farmstead or settlement. The first settler in what is now Westfield was Nathaniel Lewis who came to Newark in 1674 from England with his family. In 1693-94 Captain John Smith discovered salt mines near Easton and induced other settlers to come overland to placer mining operations at White Marsh and elsewhere along the Delaware River. One such early settler was Robert Baily who arrived in 1724 from London with his family and built a home on present day Washington Avenue. By 1800, land sales had increased sufficiently for Newark Township to be organized and by 1812 its boundaries were defined as follows: south side of the river to Broad Street; east side of the river to Main Street; north side of the river to White Marsh Road. In 1875 Westfield Township formed part of Bergen County while Westfield remained an individual municipality until 1965 when it became part of Union City Municipal Borough pursuant to an act by then Mayor James McGinley that merged all municipalities in Middlesex County into one structure under one government with greater autonomy than before. In 1850s Major General Israel Putnam opened up new land southwest of Newark on present day Camden Boulevard for grazing purposes but this failed because no water could be found nearby for irrigation purposes through what is now Hackensack River Valley and via Canandaigua Creek valley so farming eventually took over as mainstay industry followed by manufacturing including leather goods until steel production replaced them during World War II when Willowbrook Steel Works began operations adjacent topresent-day WestField Mall today making it one of America's largest container ports with over hundred terminals worldwide serving more than $100 billion worth of cargo annually packed inside 2 million square feet! During prohibition days many residents voted against prohibition but eventually Liquor Control Commission buying power prevailed prohibiting bootlegging especially given that farmers grew grapes which yielded wine acreage larger than any other crop despite Prohibition laws outlawing grape growing except for white wine made without added sugar which could still be marketed without problem since vinegar also contained tartaric acid which prevented spoilage! Although some illicit brewing did occur such as using illegally obtained flour instead of legal grade cornstarch creating liqueurs like Mardi Gras Mazarine etc., overallriminality decreased significantly due largely to policing efforts led by Special Agent George Bush Jr who played an integral role in disrupting numerous bootlegging syndicates throughout most parts of America during these years!

It was named for General James Westfeldt (1768-1824), who fought in the American Revolution and later served as governor of New Jersey.
