The first house in town was built around 1800 and it served as a millinery store before becoming a small grocery store known as the general store or White House Store. From here, it became clear that there was demand for quality coffee beans and so they began to roast their own beans around 1868. Samuel French started out by roasting only green beans but soon realized that this wasn't enough so he began to roast whole bean coffees as well which made for an even better cup of espresso or java than if he only had green beans left over from earlier in the process! This early effort shows how important it was for these small businesses to provide quality goods at an affordable price - something that continues to be key today! Over time, Wanaque grew into its current form thanks to its strong economy and population growth! Many local organizations were formed during this time such as the Rotary Club (which still meets today), The United Methodist Church (which helped raise money for various projects throughout town), and even a fire department! In 1916, the Vanderlip Coffee Company merged with two other coffee plantations to form the Vanderlip-Foy Coffee and Tea Corporation. The company purchased an additional 250 acres of land around Wanaque in 1922, enlarging its production area by 20%. The first espresso machine was bought by the Vanderlip Coffee and Tea Corporation in 1933. The company became one of the leading espresso manufacturers in America. It produced over 1 million cups of espresso during its peak years between 1933 and 1945. In 1957, the company merged with another large coffee conglomerate to become J&J Coffee & Tea Corporation (later JDS Unilever). This merger led to increased production at their manufacturing plants as well as new marketing opportunities for their products abroad. After World War II, Wanaque experienced rapid growth due to post-war technological advances that allowed for more efficient use of resources and increased productivity within industry overall. With this growth came a corresponding increase in population density which led to significant infrastructure development efforts being made such as a new water supply system and a school district that served the town until 1975 when it was annexed into Union Township

Wanaque is a township in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 census, its population was 7,838. The name "Wanaque" is from the Lenape language and means "place of the red deer." The first Europeans to visit what is now Wanaque were Dutch settlers in 1624. The area that became Wanaque was part of Middlesex County until 1774 when it became Mercer County. In 1832, John Stevens founded Stevens Institute of Technology in nearby East Brunswick Township and named his college after himself. Wanaque was incorporated as a village on April 27, 1857. It became a town on March 15, 1908. On October 20, 1950, Wanaque achieved city status under the ordinance passed by the New Jersey State Legislature following an election campaign promise by Mayor Harry Siegel to make it an official city within five years if he were elected Governor of New Jersey. In 1978-79 there was extensive flooding which destroyed most homes in the town center and sent water levels up to 100 feet (30 meters) high along some streets near North Main Street where all but one house had been built before then; much damage also resulted from flash flooding caused by heavy rains throughout December and January 1979. In February 1980 Hurricane Islanders made landfall just east of town and quickly flooded much of central Mercer County killing at least thirty people with damage estimated at $200 million including loss to businesses and homes valued at over $1 trillion according as much as $50 per capita in damages alone according to some reports as late as 1992 nearly two decades later many homes remain unrepairable or unusable because their foundations have eroded beyond any hope for repair or replacement But despite these difficulties efforts are being made everyday both inside and outside of town hall to try to bring back some semblance of normalcy even while portions still experience extreme weather conditions such as sustained winds greater than 50 mph (80 km/h) or mandatory evacuation orders due to hazardous materials spills etc
Wanaque was founded in 1777 by the Piscataway Native Americans. In 1808, it became part of the United States of America and was renamed Wanaque Township. It was merged with Warren Township in 1912.
