The United States Army was founded on Dec. 8, 1775, in New Jersey. The army fought in the American Revolution and the War of 1812. After the war, the USArmy became a professional force and began to build up its infrastructure. The first military parade took place on July 4, 1814, in New York City. In 1903, the USArmy established a national gift shop to sell military items and equipment to individuals and organizations around the country. The store continued business until it closed in 1998. In 2002, the Army Museum opened at Fort Monmouth in Wallington, New Jersey. This museum is dedicated to telling the history of the USArmy through exhibits and displays about weapons and uniforms from throughout history. The Wallington Volunteers (Allegheny Regiment) were a unit in the Union army during the American Civil War. The regiment was raised in 1864 and served until 1865. It was mustered out of service on October 24, 1865.
Wallington is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 7,849 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Theonne–Hoboken Metropolitan Statistical Area. The unincorporated communities of Belle Mead and Brightfield are located in Wallington Township. Wallington was first settled by Dutch colonists in 1664. The name "Wallington" comes from Wallingford, England, where one of the original families had arrived as indentured servants in 1624. In 1795, Wallington became a borough within Middlesex County and remained so until 1874 when it became a township. In 1834, trustees decided to rename the town Wallington after Major General George Washington (1732-1815), who had recently become president of the United States. At that time Wallington contained only about 100 people and its population growth continued slowly throughout his tenure as president - barely above average for American towns during that time; however he later developed plans to makeWallington an agricultural center with irrigation systems and founded two cotton plantations there: Mount Vernon Plantations and Arlington Heights Plantation which remain active today.Washington's death less than two years later led to increased interest in property developments adjacent to Mount Vernon Plantations (the present day Princeton University campus) due to their potential development into a presidential mansion or White House complex - discussions which eventually led to the creation of Princeton University itself circa 1830). One possible explanation for this dearth of development around Washington's plantation may have been that his widow Lydia Maria Child (1775-1846) lobbied hard against any such plans on behalf of her late husband's estate - successfully retaining much of his landholdings within what would become Princeton University boundaries posthumously (albeit mostly through gifts from her kinfolk)). After Washington's death some new settlers moved into Wallington proper while others established themselves along Route 22 north of town near where now stands Springwood Mall - gradually assimilating both groups over time according to community historian Linda Hahnke . By 1860, only about 500 people lived inWallingtontownship with most residents working on farms near their homes or engaging in other rural pursuits such as manufacturing products or serving as handmaidens at local households; however this rapidly changing social landscape changed again with immigrant arrivals during World War I who quickly transformedWallINGTON into one of Koreatown’s most vibrant cities by 1920 thanks particularly to its large number of Chinese immigrants who had come overland through Canton between 1853-1857 .....during Prohibition many alcoholic stores closed up shop making life even harder for small businesses but things started turning around once bootlegging stopped being condoned completely ...... business tightened up again following repeal which created more jobs ..........Thanks largely too Federal programs like WPA/FDR’s Rural Electrification Administration WallaceTON bounced back almost immediately becoming one if not NJ’s fastest growing municipalities .................population reached 10K by 1960 ......... political stability helped keep pace also because all major township leaders were Democrats ............. schools got built..............all these changes took place during a period when infrastructure was very low ......... today WallaceTON still has many core values including openmindedness & diversity ......... village green remains popular spot for recreation

Wallington was founded in 1795 by John Wallington and his wife, Sarah. The population of Wallington, New Jersey at that time was just over 100 people. In 1824, the town was renamed to honor George Washington and it remained so until 1942. The first mention of Wallington comes from a deed dated October 6, 1795, which is currently preserved in the Archives of North America. The document refers to a land donation by John Wallington to the Township of Perth Amboy. In 1824, George Washington visited Wallinton and conferred with its leaders about plans for the future of the town. Washington also donated $100 to help finance construction of a schoolhouse in Wallington. This structure would serve as the nucleus around which future growth would develop. During World War II, many residents served in the military including 22 members of the U.S. Coast Guard who were deployed to Normandy during Operation Overlord. Wallington was founded in 1795 by Captain John Wallington and his wife, Sarah. The first post office was established in Wallington on April 11, 1800. In 1824, the town became a borough and was renamed to Woodville. On January 1, 1895, the town of Wallington became an independent district within Middlesex County.
